The "boxing up" of the holidays was always a sad affair for me, but otherwise very similar to what you describe. We'd always wait until January 1st at the absolute earliest before tearing down the tree and decorations. In later years (this past decade or so) while collecting retro games, I often ended up getting Pokemon games on the Gameboy, N64, etc. Even then, though, I ended up reselling them as I didn't have inherent interest.
