2434 | Article | Hoju Koolander | So this was really less of an Indiana Jones clone and more of a live action pre-cursor to Tailspin, huh? Never caught this one during my USA Network watching, but reruns of Just The Ten of Us were hard to beat! | Aug 01, 2015
2433 | Article | Hoju Koolander | Glad I wasn't the only one who didn't become a martial arts master. Didn't stop us from throwing a few chops in our day though, right? | The Karate Class Kid | Aug 01, 2015
2432 | Article | Hoju Koolander | @echidna64 I definitely cut up many a paper shopping bag to protect my text books. Mainly I did this so I could doodle on the outside to customize it. @pikachulover Glad you finally lived the dream in college. Those lead moochers must have been just as bad as the notebook paper freeloaders. | Retro School Supplies | Aug 01, 2015
2431 | Article | pikachulover | Some of the girls at my junior high would have so many key chains on their backpack the zipper tag fell off from all the weight. Mechanical pencils are great!I prefer those over the wood ones today. Too bad in school all you would seem to attract were lead moochers, or at least I did. Pop-a-point pencils were ok, but once you lost one of the leads the pencil was worthless. I had always wanted one of those pencil cases as a kid, but never got one. When I was a freshman in college I bought myself one it was probably one of the first pieces of college school supplies I bough myself besides my computer. | Retro School Supplies | Jul 31, 2015
2430 | Article | echidna64 | Great memories Hoju! As we speak, I'm putting the curriculum together for my 10th grade students! Did anybody else have to cover your textbooks using brown grocery bags? I had one 4th grade teacher host a textbook cover contest to see who could draw the best design. Mine had a ton of robots drawn on it but I don't think I won anything. | Retro School Supplies | Jul 31, 2015
2429 | Article | OldSchool80s | Played a lot of Pro Wrestling back in the early days. Remember Amazon would bite at your head and blood would spurt out. When you won a match you would get the "A WINNER IS YOU" screen. | Yesterdays: MY Favorite Nintendo Games Part 3 | Jul 30, 2015
2428 | Article | Vaporman87 | Super Mario 3, Ivan Stewart, and Pro Wrestling were staples of my childhood gameplay. Super Mario 3 was an awesome sequel and really had a lot going for it both in hype and in the final product. Ivan Stewart was a game that my brother and I would play religiously. It was a really fun multiplayer game and we enjoyed building up our trucks and giving it to the A.I. competition. And, of course, Pro Wrestling was just a blast. Loved the characters (my favorite being Amazon), the moves, and the mechanics. A friend of mine who was a big wrestling fan (more than me) and I would get together and play the game for long periods of time. Not just a great wrestling game, but a great NES game period. | Yesterdays: MY Favorite Nintendo Games Part 3 | Jul 29, 2015
2426 | Article | Caps 2.0 | I took Tae Kwan Do classes with my brother for about a year. In retrospect, it wasn't the best of ideas, since physical activity has never been a strong suit of mine. I quit shortly after I tried breaking a wooden board and all I did was hurt my hand. | The Karate Class Kid | Jul 29, 2015
2425 | Article | mickyarber | I always wa ted to take karate classes, but didnt get too. Reading this, it was fu. To live vicariously through you a little bit. Fun article. | The Karate Class Kid | Jul 29, 2015
2424 | Article | Vaporman87 | You are not alone. I too delved into the mysterious art of Ninjit... I mean, Karate. I'm pretty certain my foray into it was even shorter than yours. I may have taken two or three classes and called it quits. It was just... so... boring. I think the clincher was that I tried very hard to perform the moves correctly, but found myself having my fist raised like, a half an inch higher by instructors. Seriously? You really think that's necessary? Will an opponent allow me make such adjustments? "Oh sorry, I punched you just a smidgen too low. Hang on and I'll give it another go." Yeah, I was done. My oldest son, on the other hand, has outlasted me by a great deal. He has progressed to his yellow belt, and is on the verge of moving up to orange. I don't think he really gets much enjoyment out of it though. I don't think it IS an enjoyable thing for youngsters. It's more of a means to feel a bit more confidence and learn some discipline. I'm considering some other alternative for him that I know he might enjoy, like Cub Scouts. I spent a few years in Cub Scouts, progressing all the way to Webelos before dropping out. I think he might (possibly) find that to be more enjoyable, but I'm not sure. | The Karate Class Kid | Jul 28, 2015 |
