Article | Hoju Koolander | I laughed at your comparison to Cousin Eddie, that really set the scene. All my extended family lived out of state growing up so Christmas time was celebrated with just my older brother and sister's families, I would have loved a huge party like this to complain about years later;) | Dec 14, 2015 | ![]() |
Article | Vaporman87 | Yes! What a great memory to have. Such a great story. Isn't it amazing how something so trivial can mean the difference between happiness and sorrow? What was it that made your mother so "anti-gaming"? Was she devoutly religious, or just wary of "newfangled" things? Did you end up getting that Atari 2600? If so, how did that go over in the weeks and months following? Why do Greeks think they're all that? LOL (Not a real question) Thanks for sharing this Kid C. It was stellar. | Perfect Game | Dec 10, 2015 | ![]()
Article | kidcoffee | I'm happy to report that on the trip home, true to her word, my mother purchased me my very first Atari. There were very strict rules about its use ie only on weekends and I had to prove my homework was done, but otherwise I was now free to game. We were free to game I should say as both of my parents got in on the action with me. I don't remember a time I've seen my father so happy as when he was playing Pac-Man. He wasn't very good at it, but man he loved to play. As for my mother's aversion I did ask. She blames an article in Woman's Day which stated that video games are responsible for tearing apart families. I'm not sure I buy it especially seeing that my mother never read Woman's Day, but thankfully her hatred was short lived. As for the Greeks, I know. That's all I'll say about that. Overall it was one of the most memorable Christmases I've ever had. Well actually there was one other, but I'll save that one for next year. One last aside, I forgot to add in that I also illustrated my my cover photo. Not a big deal, but I did want to mention it. Anyway thank you for the kind words!!! | Perfect Game | Dec 10, 2015 | ![]()

Article | NLogan | Cool. I love Joust with the flapping noises, the eggs hatching, the dragon/pterodactyl noise, etc. Played my Atari 2600 to death. Your mom easily could have read an article there was a woman named Ronnie Lamm in the early eighties that was very anti video games and arcades who was endlessly interviewed about the evils of arcades. How they were not wholesome places for children in bowling alleys, bars, and dark dens of mischief, and how children would steal to support their addiction to video games. Bunch of nonsense, bet she would have flipped out now to see today's generation of gamers and the violent games they play. | Perfect Game | Dec 10, 2015 | ![]()
Article | Vaporman87 | @NLogan: She would have 6,000 heart attacks at once, I'm guessing. @Kid C: Very nice work on the title card. Very nice. | Perfect Game | Dec 11, 2015 | ![]()
Article | kidcoffee | @NLogan I was going to agree with Vaporman that she would probably have multiple heart attacks at once, but the more I think about it the more I'm convinced that she's actually holed up in her basement secretly playing Grand Theft Auto. She's finally found an outlet to channel her rage and she loves it. @Vaporman87 Thank you for the compliments. | Perfect Game | Dec 11, 2015 | ![]()
Article | Hoju Koolander | I can totally see this being a network Christmas special sponsored by Atari in 1981 starring Scott Baio or Michael J Fox. Such a heartwarming tale for the holidays. | Perfect Game | Dec 14, 2015 | ![]()
