3171 | Article | NLogan | Cool. I love Joust with the flapping noises, the eggs hatching, the dragon/pterodactyl noise, etc. Played my Atari 2600 to death. Your mom easily could have read an article there was a woman named Ronnie Lamm in the early eighties that was very anti video games and arcades who was endlessly interviewed about the evils of arcades. How they were not wholesome places for children in bowling alleys, bars, and dark dens of mischief, and how children would steal to support their addiction to video games. Bunch of nonsense, bet she would have flipped out now to see today's generation of gamers and the violent games they play. | Dec 10, 2015

3169 | Article | pikachulover | That sounds like a really fun play set. And thanks. | A Mature Gift Exchange | Dec 10, 2015
3168 | Article | mickyarber | On the flip side, I always looked forward to (and still do) the family Christmas parties. With so many cousins, we just drew names and none of the gifts were expensive. You may end up wanting what someone else got, but only because it looked cool and not because it was more expensive that who you had gotten. Fun article. | What a Stuffy Party! | Dec 10, 2015
3167 | Article | mickyarber | A great story here, and really well told. | Perfect Game | Dec 10, 2015
3166 | Article | mickyarber | I used to love those Christmas parties at school with the gift exchanges. I can remember a couple of things I got from them. Probably the coolest thing I got was a Fall Guy playset. It was a truck that you pulled back and let go and it would run on it's own. It came with a Lee Majors figure in a pose with his arms up in the air, and it also came with, I think, a traffic light. You would put Lee Majors standing in the back of the truck, and run it towards the traffic light. When it went under it, the figures hands would grab the pole and hang on while the truck kept going. It was a really well designed toy that really fit the theme of the Fall Guy show, where Lee played a Hollywood stunt man. Fun article. | A Mature Gift Exchange | Dec 10, 2015
3165 | Article | mickyarber | I'm not an overly big fan of horror movies, so I've not watched nearly as many as others probably have, but I did see Silent Night, Deadly Night one time. I was traveling with my Dad and we watched it in a motel. Scared the crap out of me when I was about 9. | Top 5 Favorite Christmas Horror Movies | Dec 10, 2015
3164 | Article | kidcoffee | I'm happy to report that on the trip home, true to her word, my mother purchased me my very first Atari. There were very strict rules about its use ie only on weekends and I had to prove my homework was done, but otherwise I was now free to game. We were free to game I should say as both of my parents got in on the action with me. I don't remember a time I've seen my father so happy as when he was playing Pac-Man. He wasn't very good at it, but man he loved to play. As for my mother's aversion I did ask. She blames an article in Woman's Day which stated that video games are responsible for tearing apart families. I'm not sure I buy it especially seeing that my mother never read Woman's Day, but thankfully her hatred was short lived. As for the Greeks, I know. That's all I'll say about that. Overall it was one of the most memorable Christmases I've ever had. Well actually there was one other, but I'll save that one for next year. One last aside, I forgot to add in that I also illustrated my my cover photo. Not a big deal, but I did want to mention it. Anyway thank you for the kind words!!! | Perfect Game | Dec 10, 2015
3163 | Article | echidna64 | Nice article! A video game marathon is a great way to take advantage of all the free time. When everyone is home for a holiday my brothers and I usually do a 24-hour LAN party. However, you might have sparked a new controversy this contest- is it retro? | The Post-Christmas Video Game Marathon | Dec 10, 2015
3162 | Article | Vaporman87 | That was awesome. Great story, MarshMellow. Welcome to RD, by the way. This was a joy to read. Really well written and fun the whole way through. I can't imagine what that final "boom" must have been like. I think I would have stuck to eating Special Dark bars with my Squiggle Wiggle tattooed hands while playing the Nintendo from a previous year after that. | Expl-ho-ho-ho-sion | Dec 10, 2015 |
