Article | mickyarber | I don't know how I missed commenting on this last year when it was new, but I love this article. This is really what nostalgia is at it's heart. There are a lot of traditions around Christmas are luckily still alive and well around our house. Like I have a rule that no one opens a present until everyone has had breakfast....just like my Dad insisted on when I was a kid. My wife grew up with her grandparents making Pillsbury Orange Sweet Rolls for breakfast on Christmas morning, so we keep that going as well. So in these modern times, no one opens a present until everyone has had an orange sweet roll. But I love hearing about traditions in other people's lives, especially those involving Christmas. This article hits a nice place deep inside. Glad you shared it. | Dec 18, 2016 | ![]() |

Article | mickyarber | @Sock Yeah, the Snake Mountain Challenge was pretty cool. It took me several years to be able to find pictures of it online just to be able to remember the exact name of it. The car that came with it was one of my favorites in m collection for years growing up. I'd like to find one of it now in pristine condition to add to my new collection. | 1986: The Year That Santa Became Real | Dec 17, 2016 | ![]()
Article | SockofFleagulls | A great article and appreciate you sharing the memories. And just when I think I've seen it all from the '80s decade, you give me the Snake Mountain Challenge! As much as I was into Hot Wheels during that time, I have no recollection of this set. It doesn't look that different from what they typically do nowadays with superhero characters but that is some sweet MOTU artwork! | 1986: The Year That Santa Became Real | Dec 16, 2016 | ![]()
Article | mickyarber | @Hoju I wish I had titled my article that....Son of Santa Claus! @NLogan Sounds like an awesome picture to bust out and embarras a few people with! | 1986: The Year That Santa Became Real | Dec 16, 2016 | ![]()
Article | NLogan | I had Tomax and Xamot. Since I was a twin it was sort of a given that I should buy one. I guess I liked whichever one had the scar better. In 1980 age 3 I have a picture of me with my grandpa showing me how a toy conveyor worked. We got several trucks that year and I got a red metal working conveyor. I have the picture however grandpa is just wearing a robe and long john underwear which unfortunately is showing in the picture. I am glad that you were able to learn something about your dad. My dad was my hero too. Knowing what kind of men they were helps us to become better men. Thank you for your story. Merry Christmas Mick to you and the family. | 1986: The Year That Santa Became Real | Dec 16, 2016 | ![]()
Article | Hoju Koolander | This is the great American Christmas story, Mick. It's fit for a Hallmark film titled, "Son of Santa Claus". That kind of story really adds some shine to the family legacy. Thanks for sharing, it reminded me about the real spirit of the season. | 1986: The Year That Santa Became Real | Dec 16, 2016 | ![]()
Article | mickyarber | @Rick Ace Rhodes I've tried to take a lot of commercialism out of our family Christmases, but it is all around us so much, it's really hard to get rid of it completely. Last year we tried something in our house where we did just one present. One for each kid, and one for the wife and I. I thought it would make us really think of the perfect gift, but some of us cheated and stuffed multiple items into one box and called it one gift. | 1986: The Year That Santa Became Real | Dec 15, 2016 | ![]()
Article | mickyarber | @vkimo thanks for the compliment on the formatting. I put some time into the pics. And yes, my old man really is the genuine article. You could ask him about this stuff now, and he'd just brush it off. Hate to hear that you missed out on these awesome toys of the 80s. I just can't imagine there will be anything that could ever top G.I. Joe for versatile fun. | 1986: The Year That Santa Became Real | Dec 15, 2016 | ![]()
Article | Rick Ace Rhodes | What an amazing article Mickey. It's nice to hear such a genuine story about compassion and giving back. Unfortunately too many people get caught up in the commercialism behind Christmas, but stories like this are just a great example that not everyone does. | 1986: The Year That Santa Became Real | Dec 15, 2016 | ![]()
