2426 | Article | Caps 2.0 | I took Tae Kwan Do classes with my brother for about a year. In retrospect, it wasn't the best of ideas, since physical activity has never been a strong suit of mine. I quit shortly after I tried breaking a wooden board and all I did was hurt my hand. | Jul 29, 2015
2433 | Article | Hoju Koolander | Glad I wasn't the only one who didn't become a martial arts master. Didn't stop us from throwing a few chops in our day though, right? | The Karate Class Kid | Aug 01, 2015
2446 | Article | Vaporman87 | Nope. In fact, I went on to become a ninja (or at least dressed exactly like one). I got a ninja suit for Christmas one year out of one of those martial arts catalogs. | The Karate Class Kid | Aug 02, 2015
2469 | Article | massreality | The Karate Kid and JCVD inspired me at a very young age to take up martial arts. I started in Tae Kwon Do and really loved it. My mom decided to start taking alongside me since she had to sit through the classes anyway. It sort of became an obsession for her, and we started going every single night until I finally just refused to go anymore. She ended up getting a job with the school and fifteen years later, she opened up her own school that she still operates to this day. As an adult, I took Krav Maga for a couple years, but after a few injuries I decided it truly wasn't worth it. It's a lot cheaper and easier to go take a conceal carry class and buy a cheap handgun. :) | The Karate Class Kid | Aug 06, 2015
2474 | Article | Hoju Koolander | @massreality Wow, that's a great twist. Your Mom became the martial arts master. That's so cool. | The Karate Class Kid | Aug 07, 2015
2484 | Article | Vaporman87 | Wouldn't it have been fun to brag to other kids about how your mom could kick their mom's butt, knowing she had the skills to back that up. LOL. "My mom is a black belt in Karate... she could whip your mom's butt!" "Oh yeah! Well my mom is an alien with super powers. She could melt your mom's face!" "Seriously... my mom is a black belt." "Oh yeah, well... I bet she cooks bad. Yeah." | The Karate Class Kid | Aug 07, 2015
2418 | Article | mickyarber | I really dig this story. It reminds me of the long summer days my cousin Tim and I would road all over the 43 acres I grew up on. I had almost forgotten those adventures, but so many of them came rushing back to me while reading this. I love it. | Digging for Treasure | Jul 23, 2015
2417 | Article | Vaporman87 | Holy cow! Two "adventure" articles in one week? You can't beat that. This is a great story. It reminds me of those days when you just knew treasure was hidden somewhere around you, waiting to be found. Why it would be there, who would have put it there... didn't matter. It was there, and you were going to find it somehow. Making it even better though, is the fact that there was this relic of a by-gone era that you found. That really adds to the excitement of it. I love the reference to Homeward Bound and that you felt you needed a machete for the trip. LOL Thanks for sharing this kstrom. | Digging for Treasure | Jul 23, 2015
2475 | Article | kstrom22 | heh "dig," I get it... Thank you. My brother and I also used to road over abandoned and overgrown areas of my hometown. Now that I'm a history teacher I can go on a treasure hunt with a whole new generation, it's great! One of my students actually asked me if I'd ever heard of "The Goonies!" | Digging for Treasure | Aug 07, 2015
2483 | Article | Vaporman87 | Hunting historical treasure, even in the form of information and education, still can be fun. I know when I was a kid, I really did not care to visit a museum on a field trip, or have guides go on and on about the history of a monument. But as an adult, those things have taken on new meaning and importance. Especially local history which tends to be easily lost to that of national history. | Digging for Treasure | Aug 07, 2015 |
