| Article | pikachulover | Back when I was 13 I thought spirit gum and liquid latex were like equivalent. I didn't know any better. About the Gadget costume it's on my "things I want to dress up as, but haven't yet" list. | Sep 16, 2014
| Article | Vaporman87 | LOL. I love the "I just learned to count to 3" gag. I think there is a good variety when it comes to Houses of Haunt, though that depends on where you live. Being here in rural Ohio, your choices are basically corn mazes and more corn mazes, with the occasional school "haunted house" interspersed in there somewhere. As a kid, I was privy to a few school haunted houses, one cub scouts haunted house, and the like. In my twenties and into my early thirties, I got to see some of what was available to the "city folk". One particular event stands out in my mind... a festival of sorts with many different haunted attractions all set up in one place. Each took on a different theme, from a haunted circus to your standard haunted house. Lots of people running around in costume pretending to be after you. It was fun. Sometimes you can catch some good haunted events at the theme parks. Those are usually pretty well done, with a hefty amount of time and money invested in them. | Houses of Haunt | Sep 16, 2014
| Article | Vaporman87 | I never really got into either show. By the time these shows were on the air, I was at an age where Tales From The Crypt and Freddy's Nighmares and the like were more my thing. For those of us not familiar with the shows, we might automatically assume Goosebumps was the better pick, only because the brand was more "out there" in your face, with books and toys and other merchandising. So thanks for giving folks like me a little clarity on the both of them. | 90's Vs: Goosebumps vs Are You Afraid of the Dark | Sep 16, 2014
| Article | Mr Magic | I think a lot of us can agree that the intro to Are You Afraid of the Dark is far more scarier than Goosebumps was. Nice article. | 90's Vs: Goosebumps vs Are You Afraid of the Dark | Sep 16, 2014
| Article | Hoju Koolander | A haunted Circus would actually be pretty frightening and I think I could get some mileage out of a corn maze (more of a novelty to us "city Folk" I guess). I grew up in Southern California but never made it out to Knott's Scary Farm on Halloween. I hear it was pretty awesome getting chased by all the creepers. | Houses of Haunt | Sep 16, 2014
| Article | Hoju Koolander | Nice article. Pictures are always nice, but this is one of those unforgettable sensations you can instantly recall without them. Seeing the plastic bag poke out from behind the Rice Krispies or Cheerios was a real treat. One of my favorite cereal prizes was a similar sticky creature, I think it was called a Wacky Wall-Crawler. This one was in the shape of an Octopus. I just remember the grossness mixed with coolness of that item and the joy that lasted all of 2 minutes until it got carpet fuzz all over it. | The Cereal Incident | Sep 16, 2014
| Article | Hoju Koolander | I think what really gave Are You Afraid of the Dark the edge over Goosebumps aside from its more cerebral scares, was it's time slot. The placement at the end of SNICK programming on a Friday night around 9:30pm was perfect for that "late night" ghost story feel, while Goosebumps was on at 4pm in the afternoon. Hard to get scared when the sun is out and birds are chirping just outside your window. | 90's Vs: Goosebumps vs Are You Afraid of the Dark | Sep 16, 2014
| Article | Vaporman87 | Yeah, I hear a lot about Knott's Scary Farm this time of year, and they get some pretty big names in Halloween and Horror to take part in that. That has to be a blast. | Houses of Haunt | Sep 16, 2014
| Article | Vaporman87 | LOL. Yeah, once it hits the ground it's all over for the wall crawler toys. I occasionally come across one that has been forgotten by my kids down behind a sofa or book shelf. And yeah, pictures are recommended (as I found out the hard way over at Retro Junk, lol). | The Cereal Incident | Sep 16, 2014
| Article | fuschnikt | Thanks for the feedback, guys. This was my first upload. In hindsight, I should have maybe staged some photos for illustration purposes. May have also made the story more visually inviting. When I wrote it, I could picture everything happening as it did, I guess I wasn't sure how to present it as an illustrated article knowing I couldn't transcribe the visual memories in my nostalgia lobe. -DG | The Cereal Incident | Sep 16, 2014 |
