1692 | Article | Hoju Koolander | Glad to see you got to analyze your own Christmas photos, very impressive. The picture of you "bowing" your brother is pretty much the cutest thing ever (yeah, guys can say cute!). You got a lot of great gifts over the years, but I have to say I'm most impressed that Santa had super hero coloring books to give out instead of candy canes, that's my kinda Santa! Also, are the girls on either side of Santa supposed to be elves or Nuns? | Dec 18, 2014
1728 | Article | Hoju Koolander | @Vaporman87 Aww, great to see the kids sharing a moment with Santa together. Did they take turns telling him why they wanted or was it just a photo op? Yeah, I was pretty sure the bakers chocolate switcheroo has has caught most of us off guard during childhood. @NLogan I'm pretty sure Rudolph hogged ALL the carrots for himself anyway, only sharing with the Reindeers that didn't shun him during his years as a pariah. @pikachulover I never had heard this Christmas potato idea. I think it could go right up there with the families that hide the Christmas pickle ornament. Have you heard about that weird-o tradition? | The Santa Diaries | Dec 23, 2014
1736 | Article | Hoju Koolander | @Vaporman87 That Elf idea is awesome. My 4th grade teacher did a similar thing with Leprechauns during St. Patrick's Day and I loved it. @pikachulover Wow, you had the whole shebang, that's awesome! I think my regional theory is right, because you're another California kid who also owned the book and tape. We'll see if any Midwest or East Coast commenters can shed some light Phroomf's national exposure. | Forgotten Christmas: Phroomf | Dec 23, 2014
1745 | Article | Hoju Koolander | @pikachulover and thecrow174 Disney Adventures is definitely worthy of its own article, I had quite a stack of them myself. @Vaporman87 Those MOTU paintings were always amazing to see. Kind of like Alex Ross did to comic book characters, it really brought Eternia to life. I bought Cracked religiously from 1990-1993, MAD always seemed too "smart" for me. I love the website for what it is (their podcast is pretty great too), but they don't even reference Sylvester P. Smythe or Spies and Sabs anywhere! A missed opportunity. | Kids Magazines of the 90s | Dec 30, 2014
1749 | Article | Hoju Koolander | @comic_book_fan That's a pretty devoted brother, you have there. VHS tape transfer sounds like quite a procedure. I thought those X-Men video had the coolest cover design with that matte black finish and just the red in the image behind the X. | Pizza Hut Promotions | Jan 02, 2015
1750 | Article | Hoju Koolander | @NLogan I also ate french fries while listening to The Shadow, but not fancy homemmade style, that's sounds great. I had to settle for McDonald's while sitting in my Dad's car listening to the broadcasts over the radio. Although I did eventually buy a set of cassettes that showcased 2 episodes from each actor to play The Shadow over the years. | Halloween Hallelujah! | Jan 02, 2015
1751 | Article | Hoju Koolander | @Fulton4V Yeah, the kids don't seem to appreciate the production aspect as much, but the parent's sure do. We got a lot of comments at our house this year for our Haunted Graveyard with serial killer motif. | Houses of Haunt | Jan 02, 2015
1752 | Article | Hoju Koolander | @BarryBgb Glad you had good memories at TRU. I got to work there for one holiday season and tried to keep that same sense of wonder as I was stocking the shelves and helping kids find their favorite toys. | Timewarp: Toys R Us 1987 | Jan 02, 2015
1757 | Article | Hoju Koolander | Hoju Koolander Posted on Jan 03, 2015 at 04:19 AM @pikachulover Sky was appropriately named, she had good reach in The Wall and Hang Tough. I did actually catch an episode of Gladiators 2000, but the educational element took away the fun for me. GUTS on Nickelodeon was more my style, but came at the end of my Nick watching phase so I only saw it a few times. Thanks for mentioning it and the Hulk Hogan hosted reboot. @vaporman87 "Rowsdower!" oh, I own The Final Sacrifice on DVD, but I never made the Csonka Connection. It's funny how the brain can miss things like that. I had a hard time finding an attractive female Gladiator to crush on, but I always thought Lace was okay, since she was just fit and not ripped. My favorite male Gladiator was actually Hawk from the later seasons, he had a lot of energy and a little touch of crazy that made him extra cool. | American Gladiators | Jan 03, 2015
1761 | Article | Hoju Koolander | Thanks for breaking the post-holiday article drought. This was a great read, as usual. I hated those learn a skill books with a passion. One year I got the Klutz Juggling book, I wanted to play, not learn to entertain at other kids birthdays. My Mom's boyfriend got me trilobite excavation kits or other science junk birthday presents for years. At the end of their relationship he finally wised up and got me an album full of 8x10 vintage KISS publicity photos, but it was too little too late for me to put in a good word for him. Should have been buying me comics, dude. Oh and loved seeing the Geoffrey cash, I miss that stuff. Now a Toys R Us savings bond, that would have been something to get excited about! | Birthday Or BUST! | Jan 06, 2015 |
