Remember when pickup trucks only came with two doors? While big trucks were available as 4-door crew cabs, stadard and light duty trucks were available only as 2-door regular cabs until 1973.

Datsun got the jump on all its import truck competition when it introduced its extended cab variant, providing extra interior cab space behind the front seats.

But in a brilliant move, Datsun named their new extended cab truck, "King Cab", with a wonderful TV ad campaign that spoofed "King Kong". The only YouTube clip I can find is the 30 second spot. I wish I could find the full one minute ad - but I wonder if I'll ever see that again.

But the greatest tribute to Datsun's "King Cab" ad campaign appeared in the awesome 1987 movie, "RoboCop", in the guise of the "6000 SUX" - supstituting a dinosaur in place a giant gorilla, and thus caapitalizing on the Dino-mania craze that was sweeping popular culture. Simply Amazing!
