Who here has seen this entry in the Halloween franchise.

This might be a bit of an unpopular opinion, but... I actually enjoyed this one. My expectations weren't really that high going into it, since it wasn't really that much well received of a film. And after watching it, I really think the main reason the film was received as poorly as it has was merely because Michael Myers wasn't in it. If that's what you're expecting, then yes, you are going to be disappointed. But on it's own, it fells very chilling and haunting, especially when it gets to the very end. And while you could make the argument that this could be a film from a different franchise, it does feel very fitting of the Halloween name, as this is a scary tale that centers around Halloween. Particularly, the Silver Shamrock corporation using Halloween costumes to kill the children wearing them on Halloween night. The set up to that ends up being very bone chilling.

When looking up the development of this film, John Carpenter intended for the Halloween franchise to be an anthology film series, kind of like The Twilight Zone of horror films centered around Halloween, as opposed to it being a slasher franchise involving Michael Myers. Honestly, I kind of wish the Halloween franchise went the anthology route. It definitely would have been better than seeing all of these shitty sequels/reboots that featured Michael Meyers returning again and again. With the anthology format, there was a lot of potential for ideas that could have kept the franchise going fresh for years (had Halloween 3 been more well received, the fourth film would have involved a ghost story). I mean, how many more times could you really bring back Michael Myers? Really, having him return for the 4,295th time does not have the same impact as when he returned the first time around.

For those who haven't given this entry a chance, I'd recommend doing so. Just so long as you're not going into it expecting to see Michael Myers.

Yes, it was different. But it was scary. And that's what a good horror film is supposed to be,

I love this one. I tend to watch most if not all of the Halloween movies every year in October, but I always look forward to this one since it's a nice change of pace. It's become a favorite among horror fans as years have gone on, and really the initial poor rating was due ot what you said (dashed expectations). I often wish it did well enough to have kept the anthology idea alive.

This is excellent, Blue Dude!

Everyone involved in the Halloween franchise recognized the "Jaws Dilemma", aka, how many times can you make the same movie, over and over?

The anthology concept was perfect for this series because all the stories would have Halloween as the common thread. We could've had an endless line of antagonists, not just Michael Myers.

I agree with you guys, Halloween III is an underrated gem, well told and full of old school effects.

Definitely a creative way to do a Jack-O-Lantern, edd.
