Forum » Chew The Fat » Nintendo to discontinue Miiverse service
Benjanime
So for those of you with a Wii U and 3DS haven't heard, Nintendo is discontinuing the Miiverse online service as of November 8th of this year. This has been upsetting news to many in the community, as thousands of users have used the service to not only upload screenshots sharing their game achievements, but to show off their own artwork using the Wii U and 3DS touch screens, and I myself am saddened to hear about this as it was the key feature that brought me into purchasing a Wii U.

And yes I know Blueluigi, I'm aware that I can draw on the Switch tablet. But the thing is, Miiverse also gave both the Wii U and 3DS personality. And without that included on the Switch, it just won't be the same. I got all sorts of followers watching my posts (even a few users from Japan) and it gave me motivation to draw more of my well known cartoons to share. Some online services will still continue for a short while, such as Super Mario Maker's level sharing, but I'm sure that soon enough every other online service will end shortly after.

Of course I'll still draw on my Wii U after I write this post, but it's still depressing to hear about this.

So Mario Maker won't be worth having any more. Awesome.

actually you'll still be able to share level ID's, just on different social media. not like sharing them on miiverse mattered anyway, i had to advertise the hell out of mine just so they could get attention.

Not sure where I mentioned that you can draw on the Switch tablet, as I have yet to see anything that uses it as a drawing tool. I know Splatoon 2 has a Miiverse like community, but I haven't used the Switch tablet for that as of yet.

That said, I feel like them ending Miiverse like that is a little premature. I haven't used Miiverse that much, but I did like it's uses in games like Super Mario Maker, as well as the Miiverse stage in Super Smash Bros for the Wii U. The platform did have potential, and I believe if Miiverse is carried over through the Switch, it might have been a more successful social media platform for Nintendo. Hell, even when Miiverse was used for the 3DS, it was very underutilized compared to how it was used for the Wii U.

I'd be nice if they bring a successor of Miiverse over to the Switch, kind of like what they did with Club Nintendo. I guess the closest we have to that is the Splatoon 2 community. Maybe through Nintendo Switch's Online Service, I guess.

I feel like this is gonna backfire on Nintendo as soon as it is done.

OK, I don't have Wii U and that's probably why I'm confused, but where do the levels get uploaded?  And how will I be able to find a robust community when I eventually get one?

the server will still be open, it just optionally gets posted on miiverse to show off, but it's not particularly helpful since community posts are still busy to this day, so if say your level gets posted on miiverse it'll be left behind in a matter of seconds due to frequent post trafficking from other players whether they're from the U.S. or another country, hence why i mentioned previously that it's best to share them on appropriate forums and facebook pages where people have more of a chance of seeing the I.D. labels of your levels.

well as sad as it sounds, there have been wii u and 3ds users who have managed to make their own forums and discord servers inspired by the closing of the miiverse service. i actually did join one forum called "mvhaven" but i won't be there for very long. the forum design feels bland and the topic areas don't give me much reason to stay anyway.

There now exists an archive of Miiverse posts.

I'm not sure if it's every Miiverse post made, but it does have just about all the ones that I posted. And I wasn't even that active of a user on Miiverse to begin with. Most of the posts I made was related to certain games that I was playing. For instance, some of the levels in Super Mario Maker. I also posted a number of times while playing New Super Mario Bros U. Mainly complaining about how that game was so ridiculously easy, it wasn't even fun to play.
