With all due respect to the guys at MST3K, "This Island Earth" still stands as one of my favorite sci-fi movies.

One of the outstanding features of this movie can be summed up in a single word: electronics.

Released in 1955, "This Island Earth" is one of those rare sci-fi movies that embraces the new electronics revolution that was looming in the mid-50's, heralding the transition from mechanical devices and controls.

The movie is still up on YouTube so save a copy or watch online. Be sure not to miss the appearance of Russell "The Professor" Johnson, in one of his many roles before his run with "Gilligan's Island" in 1964.

The women of New Vegas ask me a lot if there's a Mrs. New Vegas. Well, of course there is! You're her. And you're still just as perfect as the day we met.

I only know this movie because I watched the MST3K movie years ago.

OMG!!!

Dude, you are so lucky to have one of those. I should be able to pick one up on ebay but condition will decide if I take the plunge.

"This Island Earth" was Universal Pictures shaking-up the sci-fi world with a top notch color film. The hold of "black & white" filming in this genre had gone on a little too long, in my opinion.

Many sci-fi fans say "This Island Earth" is waay too "talkie". The movie needed less talk and more action.

My judgement is swayed by what the characters talk about. I love the dialog between Cal Meacham, (Rex Reason), and his lab assistant at the beginning of the movie. The scene with the two men assembling that strange looking communications device really appeals to my inner 8-year old kid, lol.
