The Fly (Nineteen Eighty Something)

Good movie, a bit gross but worth a watch. Gina Davis is also a certified retro babe.

As far as gross factor and practical FX are concerned, The Fly holds up really well. But yeah, I think less gross and more deep diving into the science and Seth's psyche could have benefited the movie.

Bright (2017)

6/10

It's been unfairly savaged by social justice warriors for its shallow racial allegories but Bright is a lot of fun. I liked the action, the world-building, and Joel Edgerton is fantastic.

Bright loses points because it seems like it was written by a high school student; big on ideas but not sure what to do with them. The dialogue in particular is really juvenile and the "non-ending" was especially frustrating. Also, they missed an opportunity to call it "Ork Cops."

I thought it was great for a action packed shoot em up. The Orcs definitely drew real life comparisons. Even down to their clothing and demeanor. We should have seen at least one Ork sporting glasses and a briefcase haha,

Movie had tons of confusing elements. One scene shows an Ork (Orc?) lifting up a pick up truck. If they're that strong Will Smith would have died several times over from Ork infected blows. At one point I saw a dragon flying in the long distance shot...kinda made me wonder. This movie made it sound like humans along with elves, orks and and dwarves all occupied the earth since the beginning. I just can't wrap my head around that and expect Orks to be wearing Fubu on the corner, I dunno.

Overall, I enjoyed it, and that's what counts.

Get Out (2017)

9/10

Finally, got around to seeing this movie that deserves all of the attention it has received. Get Out is smartly written, with every word of dialogue carefully leading up to the climax.

Killer Workout (1986)

A cool little slasher movie that's set in fitness club with lots of over the top kills and scenes with aerobics.

Just finished the Orion Pictures film F/X on Amazon Prime last night. I always remember seeing the VHS at the video store but never had the guts to rent it. It was actually really cool. Anybody seen that one?

The craziest part for me was seeing the Dad from Tommy Boy (Brian Dennehy) and the Grandpa from Son-In-Law on either side of a justice department conspiracy. Plus, Tom Noonan who played Frankenstein's Monster in Monster Squad is one of the crooked government agents.

Also, at one point a car crashes into a wall covered in Rambo and Chuck Norris Code of Silence movie posters, which was pretty awesome.

I've never seen F/X. But the car crash pic into Rambo and Chuck Norris posters is enticing.
