Mr Magic
Nancy Wilson had the voice of an angel.

As I recall, "The Hollywood Palace" began with very high production standards. Only singers willing to actually sing, not just lip sync, were booked for appearance.

As you can see Nancy Wilson hand no problem meeting the highest of recording values as she always sang live in her television appearances.

By the late 60's the Hollywood Palace was under pressure to book more "popular" music of the time. The high standard had to be lowered to get some singers to appear on the show - sometimes ya gotta settle for what you can get.

Nancy always reminds me of Nat King Cole.

Nat always sang at his own pace. What's amazing is you know exactly what he's gonna sing but ya fall for the way he sings it - Magnificent!

Well here's a bit of history for you.

Track 1 - Track 2 . . . how many tracks have you heard?

This is the mess surrounding Neil Diamond's first hit song, "Solitary Man". At the time Neil was a very busy young man with lots of ideas all at once for getting himself established in the music industry.

Neil was working on multiple projects and he was between record labels, both of which were releasing songs, when all of a sudden, "Solitary Man" hit the charts!

Then the flurry of activity took over as Neil quickly re-recorded his song with both labels, mono and stereo, alone and with musical backup. He even multi-tracked the song, so the version you heard on the radio varied with when and where you were in the country at any given moment.

WOW!

Well here's the version I'm familiar with released by Bang Studios with it's near attempt at stereo recording.
Regardless of the version, this was Neil Diamonds first big hit song:
