44335 | Return to Oz (1985) |
@shakin: I'm not familiar with the material in the books, but I wonder which film between Wizard of Oz ('39) and Return to Oz is more faithful to his books.
| Vaporman87 | Nov 22, 2019 | ![]() |
44334 | Pringles |
There's an excellent article about Pringles here

Taquitos.net wrote :

Pringles were anachronistic even when they were introduced in 1968. I was seven years old at the time. But in the next few years, as both Pringles and a child's intuitive marketing savvy filtered into my consciousness, I thought I sensed a colossal blunder. After all, '60s counterculture sensibilities had filtered into the mainstream, had they not? Even the stodgiest businessman's hair crept over his collar. Every kid in my school wore bellbottoms. My brother and I opted for popular "shag" haircuts. (These would later prompt us to spend much of our adult lives tracking down and burning photographs of ourselves from that era. But like Tang, the Chevrolet Vega, and Jonathon Livingston Seagull, the Shag seemed like a good idea at the time.)

What I mean to say is that by the early 1970s, when my siblings and I really swooned over Pringles, the mass-marketing zeitgeist was embracing hippy ideals: freedom, individuality, kooky uniqueness...

-end quote

| shakin steak | Nov 21, 2019 | ![]() |
44333 | Return to Oz (1985) |
I will have to check it out. I have been on an Oz kick this year, looking for all of the books, or at least the 14 that Baum wrote himself. It's hard because I want them all in the same edition, so my shopping is dictated by the first lot I found. I saw one set of 48 out of the 49 books for $700. Pretty good deal, but a big chunk of change all at once.

I got a DVD of the 1939 movie which includes the 1925 movie. I want to marathon those with The Wiz, and Wicked, and this film. I've read that RtO is considered to be very strange. Judging by the preview, it looks quite faithful to the books. I think people who hold that opinion must have never read them, nor considered how WoO would look for an adult who has never seen it before, never mind grew up watching it dozens of times.
| shakin steak | Nov 21, 2019 | ![]() |

44331 | Importing Articles From RetroJunk |
i can't even remember how long ago i lurked around the site for its articles, the last article i dared to read was this guy showing off some vintage stuff and ending his article with a rather disturbing image of himself. just goes to show how neglectful vertex is about taking care of his own site despite wanting to keep it up and running.
| Benjanime | Nov 21, 2019 | ![]() |
44330 | Importing Articles From RetroJunk |
This reminds me I still have to bring over my Spider-Man article that I wrote when I was still over there.

On another note to demonstrate just how far RJ has fallen, that Spider-Man article is sitting on only the thirteenth page of articles. It's been five years since I published it over there. The amount of new articles that the site gets has gotten since then is so low that it has only pushed it to the thirteenth page.
| Rick Ace Rhodes | Nov 21, 2019 | ![]() |
44329 | The Café |
I mean, I don't mind watching an anime show in Japanese and reading the subtitles, but I've just become so used to watching them in English.
| Mr Magic | Nov 20, 2019 | ![]() |

It's neat that they added the English version.
| Mr Magic | Nov 20, 2019 | ![]() |
44326 | The Café |
Yeah, I was surprised too when I found out. Probably got enough views to keep, but not enough to keep on the main channel is my guess.

Benjanime wrote :
i do find it kinda baffling that nickelodeon bought out the TMNT license yet they're not even keeping these new shows on their main channel.

-end quote

| ThatDudeintheHoodie | Nov 20, 2019 | ![]() |
