| 45595 | We lost Fred Willard | <p><img alt="" src="https://i.pinimg.com/originals/41/f2/36/41f23690c09cf7ee865be12f4fc97ef3.jpg" /></p> <p>Can't talk about Fred Willard without the Second City (SCTV) cast, but I still have to go one jump earlier in time!</p> <p> </p> <p><img alt="" src="https://i.pinimg.com/originals/fb/f1/4f/fbf14fde116084e3d9cc45bb57be5f61.jpg" /></p> <p>Fred Willard represented the first wave of talent from Second City, which includes the original "Not Ready for Primetime Players" on NBC's Saturday Night Live in 1975. </p> <p>It is no exaggeration when I say that <strong>The Second City Theater</strong> of Chicago (plus Toronto and Los Angeles) set the pace for comedy in the last half of the 20th century with actors that range all aspects of entertainment.</p> <p>Fred Willard caught my attention when he teamed up with Martin Mull in the mid-70's multi series, "Mary Hartman/Fernwood-America 2 Night", TV series that spanned daytime and late night television programming hours.</p> <p>"<strong><em>Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman</em></strong>" was the weekday soap opera spoof that became an instant hit following the odd happening in the strange world of Ferwood, Ohio. This weird little town was in the middle of a crime wave, an unidentified man was exposing himself in public for more than six months. </p> <p>The Fernwood Police finally made an arrest!</p> <p><iframe frameborder="0" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/gHDfj4H7eyQ" width="560"></iframe></p> <p>To the gratitude of college students across the country, where Mary Hartman left off on weekdays another show took up the job of informing the citizens of Middle America. <strong>Martin Mull</strong> and <strong>Fred Willard</strong> hosted the locally produced, late-night talk show, "<strong>Fernwood 2 Night</strong>", and my friends and I thought we had landed in the Twilight Zone of Ohio!</p> <p><iframe frameborder="0" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/mAJmwL0a2B8" width="560"></iframe></p> <p>There are different kinds of comedians and Fred Willard was the type I loved most. His comedy was conversational and circumstantial.
