I was in an airport lounge having an argument with several people who did not know there were alternatives to Kellogg's Pop-Tarts. One lady started yelling at me that I was an idiot, there's only Pop-Tarts and nothing else!

Well, until 1964 there really was only one thing that you'd put in a toaster and that was sliced bread. If it wasn't for sliced bread there wouldn't be any need for a toaster in my opinion.

Toast'em was the kind my mom bought at the store, Pop-Tarts didn't appear until a month or so later. There must have been a distribution snafu because we saw the television ads long before we saw them in the local stores. I was happy to stick with the Toast'em brand but Kellogg's marketing magic could not be denied.

The real game changer was "frosting", Kellogg's Frosted Pop-Tarts put the other brands on the down-slide! General Foods really didn't want to copy Kellogg's idea, well not at first. They tried "animal shaped vent holes" to lessen the sales impact. At least the ad was cool. This is the famous ad where the British big game hunter pauses and says, "chocolate elephants?". My friends and I found this funny because it was General Foods/Post Cereals clone of the "Post Crispy Critters" catch-phrase from the Linus the Lion-Hearted TV show.

Nabisco also had a brand of toaster pastry called, "Toastetts", which I found to have an odd aftertaste that I didn't like. I actually liked the Toast'em brand over Pop-Tarts but Kellogg's rules breakfast in America. Like Bart Simpson said, "the mob has spoken!".

| eddstarr | Sep 13, 2020 | ![]() |

46153 | Cartoon "Sandwich" Time |

Ya got me rollin' now MM!

Used to spend all my time with Dexter's Laboratory, remember all the clips everyone shared over at RetroJunk? Who was that guy with a "thang" for Dee Dee? Monkey was cool. How about a TV mash-up called, "Monkey and The Brain" - aside from copyrights and Pinky backlash, it could work!

I like the way you said it - "Dail M for Money", LOL!

Not many live action series had cartoon fillers but "The Red Green Show" had Ranger Gord and in my opinion, Ranger Gord was the most brilliant animated filler on television. Yes, there's Money at rainbow's end.

Possum Lodge is always Halloween Ready!

| eddstarr | Sep 12, 2020 | ![]() |
46152 | TurboGrafx-16 Mini Console |
Hahahaha, I'm so stupid.
I just fired up my raspberry pi and guess what? I already have the entire PCEngine / TurboGrafx-16 library loaded on the damn thing.

I'll be honest, I still kinda want to buy the mini anyway, for the look and feel, but I may not now. I'll play some games on the raspberry pi and hope that I lose interest in spedning the $100 :P
| onipar | Sep 12, 2020 | ![]() |
46151 | Cartoon "Sandwich" Time |
Everyone wants to be a baron.

Between Dexter's Laboratory shorts, there were filler cartoons.

One was called Dial M For Monkey, which was about this crime-fighting monkey who was save the world when Dexter wasn't working on an experiment in his lab.

And then there's The Justice Friends, which is an animated sitcom of the lives of superhero spoofs. Major Glory, who is a Captain America Parody. The Infraggable Krunk, who's a parody of The Incredible Hulk. And Val Hallen, who's a cross between Thor and Eddie Van Halen.

There were some interesting bad guys on The Justice Friends, like this postal worker.

I liked how he threw that sharp piece of paper across Major Glory's face. "Ahh!! Bills!" XD
| Mr Magic | Sep 12, 2020 | ![]() |

46148 | TurboGrafx-16 Mini Console |

Hmmm, on the one hand I tend not to notice little issues like that. On the other, I have a raspberry pi system (just no turbo games loaded yet) and it would save $100. I'm torn. :P
| onipar | Sep 12, 2020 | ![]() |
46147 | TurboGrafx-16 Mini Console |
I've heard there's some slight input delay in certain games and lords of thunder has emulation problems. I'm just gonna take the cheap way out and play the games on a raspberry pi I own.
| Benjanime | Sep 12, 2020 | ![]() |
