3154	Article	Vaporman87	Motorized jeeps, Super NES, Playstation... oh my! These are all really great choices. My own personal favorites through the years included the original NES, as well as an ATV... both in the same year. That was probably one of the greatest ever Christmases as far as gifts were concerned. I also really loved the year my step-brother (from one of my mom's marriages) and I received ninja outfits (not the cheap costume kind, but the kind you could order though Martial Arts magazines). I can't imagine what that final "boom" must have been like. What was it that made your mother so "anti-gaming"? Was she devoutly religious, or just wary of "newfangled" things? Did you end up getting that Atari 2600? 3175	Article	Vaporman87	This reminds me of a bad experience in our fourth grade gift exchange. I received a heavily used Star Wars figure wrapped in newspaper and sealed in a cardboard box ( no wrapping paper ). It came from one of the less fortunate students in the class. But me being a spoiled little 10 year old, I took it upon myself to cry about it. Looking back on it now, I cringe and hate myself for my reaction. 3177	Article	Vaporman87	Our get-togethers at our my Grandma's house were kind of like what you describe here. I didn't really know my cousins well (nor did I care much for them). So I just wanted to get the good stuff and get home. I would typically play with my haul until Christmas morning, after which those toys became all but forgotten for several weeks, if not forever. 3187	Article	Vaporman87	Superb read. Simply epic. There is so much nostalgic goodness just dripping from this, it makes ME want to go back to YOUR childhood and relive them one more time. LOL It's funny that one side of your family had 14 children, considering my mom came from a family of 13. They sure did pump out the kids back in their day, huh? I like that you include all the ways that you are incorporating some old traditions from your childhood into your own children's lives. That is something I can completely relate to, as I do the same thing. Sure, you get enjoyment out of continuing tradition, but you're mostly seeking to give your children the same joy that you KNOW they will experience in the same way you experienced it.
