1418 | Article | Fulton4V | I was at Knotts one time while visiting my aunt, uncle and cousins and they took us there. It was a very nice park and I wish I could have been there for the scary farm festival. Nice article. | Oct 10, 2014
1417 | Article | pikachulover | The 4Kids block started the year I started college. So that was like a ceremonial ushering in of things. I don't know some of the 4Kids shows were watchable. I really liked the Winx Club, Fighting Foodons, Kirby, and Dinosaur King. ABC ran some decent cartoons for a few years in the early 2000s like Filmore. Sometimes when I'm feeling nostalgic I watch old Saturday morning cartoon commercial blocks on youtube. Sometimes I use them for article research. | R.I.P. 1416 | Article | pikachulover | @Hoju I remember the times I went to Elvira she was set up near the bumper cars. Her merchandise would be for sale after the show. It was mostly makeup. Too bad about that ride. I heard it had to be closed down because the roof caved in. The park should really do something with it. Even if they have to knock it down. It's in a good location and it has a lot of potential. They could expand the arcade or put a store there or something. | Haunting Memories | Oct 10, 2014
1415 | Article | Hoju Koolander | Good stuff, Mike. It's crazy that the syndicated cartoons in the morning and afternoons co-existed for so long with the Saturday Morning cartoon block, but I suppose this was inevitable. That said, you hit on some of my favorites: Beetlejuice, Camp Candy and those Sunkist commercials are instant nostalgia for me. As for some of the others, I have a Hammerman VHS tape packed away somewhere (yes, it's terrible) and I bought the complete series of Hey Vern, It's Ernest for $5 at Wal-Mart a while back, I like to put it on while I'm cleaning the house on Saturday mornings. | R.I.P. 1414 | Article | Hoju Koolander | I totally forgot that Elvira used to do a show at the Halloween Haunt! I remember going to Knott's one year while they were transforming it to Knott's Scary Farm and the workers setting-up the stage near the Mine Car ride said it was because Elvira was coming for the Haunt. Then you had to go and mention Kingdom of the Dinosaurs (sniff) that was the only reason I went to Knott's back in the day. I loved the animatronic scientist narrator, "YOU"RE GOING BACK IN TIME!" | Haunting Memories | Oct 09, 2014
1413 | Article | Vaporman87 | I'd be interested in seeing them if you get the chance. Post them in the Halloween Nostalgia and More thread, if you ever feel inclined to. :) | Haunting Memories | Oct 09, 2014
1412 | Article | Benjanime | no, but after i got back home i'd posted my experience. it wasn't as good as some of the past 'howl-o-scream' halloween events. some of the attractions had little mazes to go through, but the employees that usually have to do their job to give people a scare didn't really do much in making them jump this time around. my stepdad took some photos of a few things that they had on display around the park | Haunting Memories | Oct 09, 2014
1411 | Article | Vaporman87 | @Ben: Did I ask you how that was? I can't remember now. Your trip to the Busch Gardens Halloween thing. | Haunting Memories | Oct 09, 2014
1410 | Article | Benjanime | i have to agree with vapor, i think that pretty much when 4kidsTV came around, you just knew that the common pasttime of saturday cartoons just had to go. poorly edited anime, american girl cartoons that just try too hard to do the whole princess/fairy thing, and television producers that just like to put contests in the sweepstakes meat grinder. speaking of which, i remember when they had a contest for a chance to win a copy of shadow the hedgehog, an edgy sonic game that used minor explicit words, but i guess they missed that because of the E label on the esrb rating for it. | R.I.P. 1409 | Article | Benjanime | the knott's halloween haunt must've been a real treat to go to :) unfortunately there's not a lot of halloween events here in virginia since the busch gardens theme park down in williamsburg has a bevy of halloween things going on during the month of october. great article! | Haunting Memories | Oct 09, 2014 |
