3837ArticleVaporman87I remember often thinking how dumb looking the Attack Trak was in the cartoon. Instead of the wicked red ATV style vehicle it was, the cartoon portrayed it as a giant blue box with a window in front. And not only that, it would talk and even get snarky. LOL. I recall seeing a storybook that had someone riding the Road Ripper... in the air! LOL. As if it was a flying vehicle.  Apr 23, 2017View

3859ArticleHoju KoolanderI didn't own any He-Man toys until the 3rd or 4th wave with characters like Rokkon, Spikor and Mantenna. But I had a light up He-Man power sword at one point for my role play fun. Alot of the older kids I knew had these original figures and vehicles, so I did play with them. Buzz-Off's helmet always seemed redundant to me because it had extra Bug Eyes on it, which really bothered me.Catalog Pages: Masters of the Universe from 1985Apr 24, 2017View
3842ArticleVaporman87Here's something you can fact check on the internet; the county I live in (Meigs) is notorious for "Meigs County Gold (or Green)"... or marijuana for those a bit confused. Even people in other states had heard of Meigs County's abundance of Mary Jane (why that is I don't want to know). So naturally we were routinely shovel fed a steady dose of anti-drug seminars in school. Typically this was a group of former dopeheads putting the fear of the almighty in you. Now look at this nation. We're legalizing the stuff. Go figure.Retro Culture of FearApr 23, 2017View
3856ArticlemickyarberI'm always amazed at how mine and your childhoods mirrored each other's. Most of this is the same fears that were drilled into us in school here in Virginia. Except maybe the street gangs. I always felt the same about NYC. Through depictions on television and in movies, it always seemed dirty and violent. Then I went there for the first time and thought, "this ain't bad, hell, it's pretty cool!"Retro Culture of FearApr 24, 2017View
3861ArticleHoju Koolander@Vaporman87 See in my case the warnings were all nonsense, but you guys apparently had access to the stuff. That's crazy! @mickyarber It's like I've always said, Virginia is the California of the East! OK, maybe I've never actually said that, but VA and CA share a letter!Retro Culture of FearApr 24, 2017View
3864Articleechidna64My favorite depiction of NY in the 80's is from the Ninja Turtles movies lol Things were pretty bad back then, nowadays you simply can't afford to live there if you make less than 100KRetro Culture of FearApr 24, 2017View
3865ArticleCaps 2.0My fear of New York City came into effect after my Dad died. He worked in the city for what was called Nynex at the time, and he would occasionally take me or my brother into the city with him to spend a day at work, after which we might do something like visit a museum or cross the Hudson River into New Jersey and attend a Giants game. My dad was a Vietnam veteran and one of the toughest, yet gentlest people I knew. He died when I was 12, and I no longer felt safe visiting the city. It didn't help that my mom, with whom I had a fractured and bitter relationship, didn't understand why I was afraid of the city. She was born and raised in the Bronx, so she strode through with no problem. Me? I was scared and still am.Retro Culture of FearApr 24, 2017View
3840ArticleVaporman87You know, maybe I'm wrong and remember things incorrectly, but it seems like that even though nowadays comic book heroes are the cat's meow for everyone on Earth, the amount of promotional material using their likenesses is actually not as prevalent. Am I wrong?Spider-Man Food Ads of the 90'sApr 23, 2017View
3854ArticleHoju KoolanderYou're right. I mean Marvel still has a lot of their movie characters on Doritos, Skittles and even Kleenex boxes around the time of movie release dates, but those are movie tie-ins, not the illustrated comic book characters promoting Go-Gurt for example. You see The Avengers everywhere, but it's like movie concept art. Meanwhile the original inspirations for the live action adventures are relegated to dollar store merchandise, it's a sad state of affairs indeed.Spider-Man Food Ads of the 90'sApr 24, 2017View
