3552ArticleNLoganOnly 2 people knew who I was supposed to be. Lots of people thought it was a mask and were surprised to find out it was make up. If you look very closely at the maxilla region above where my upper lip would be near the philtrum, you can see the line of the bottom of my nose. The nostrils are actually painted clear up on the bridge of my nose to try for more of a likeness to the character. Dec 12, 2016View
3553ArticleNLoganNice. I had a few GoBots and always wanted the diecast Voltron. The pictures especially the fact that you took them make this one special.Christmas 1985 Through My Gobots Camera LensDec 12, 2016View
3568ArticleNLoganI don't know about a hot toys Yoda but I passed once on a pretty cool one that was 1:1 size. I could have picked it as part of a costume contest win. Instead of going all for one thing I decided to get lots of little things. Too bad your bro never got one, cool that you are going to finally get him his Christmas wish. <img src="/images/postImages/1481582526darthmaul-(17).gif">Christmas ConundrumDec 12, 2016View
3569ArticleNLoganWhen I won a X-Box 360 and gave it to my boys I opened it and created profiles and downloaded games like the week before so that it was ready to roll Christmas morning. That F-14 looks sweet. I had WWII fighter that was gas powered but flew in a circle on a hand held line. I never did get a Genesis but I loved me some Altered Beast in the arcade and secretly wanted one but the Nintendo dominated in my house.A Very Sega ChristmasDec 12, 2016View
3589ArticleNLoganI had Tomax and Xamot. Since I was a twin it was sort of a given that I should buy one. I guess I liked whichever one had the scar better. In 1980 age 3 I have a picture of me with my grandpa showing me how a toy conveyor worked. We got several trucks that year and I got a red metal working conveyor. I have the picture however grandpa is just wearing a robe and long john underwear which unfortunately is showing in the picture. I am glad that you were able to learn something about your dad. My dad was my hero too. Knowing what kind of men they were helps us to become better men. Thank you for your story. Merry Christmas Mick to you and the family.1986: The Year That Santa Became RealDec 16, 2016View
3601ArticleNLogan@Mick Fried bologna is relatively rare around here (mountain west), at least my brother and I are the only ones I have ever met that ate them regularly. I was surprised when looking at specific Hot Wheels cars how many I recognized. We never believed at a young age that grandma could be making up the monsters. Because we knew she was just pulling the cookies straight out of the bag and not taking a bite of each one. It never occurred to us that they were manufactured that way. In our child's eye view it was ludicrous because no one would buy a partially eaten cookie. Plus on the package only one cookie was shown bitten. The pile of cookies was undamaged. We never read the text on the bag. We took the threat of bitten cookies seriously. I also prefer Franco-American because of grandma. It is incredible to me that some of my favorite things or little things I do around the house are rooted in the ways of grandma and my time spent there. Merry Christmas to you and yours. @Vapor that is what is really about, isn't it. Making the best of the situation available. Those memories of the joyous holidays become more precious as time goes on and loved ones are no longer with us. I think the time at my grandma's is so ingrained because I only had slightly over a decade with her, but I remember so much. Foods she made me try and then I liked (we were picky). Picking food from her garden. Going to the store together, etc.NLogan's Christmas at Grandma's HouseDec 19, 2016View
3616ArticleNLogan@Vapor the aluminium was thin and flexible. I suppose it would be possible to cut oneself if you got the right angle but I don't remember it ever being a problem. @Vkimo chocolate for the win! @sock thanks! I didn't know they re-released it.NLogan's Christmas at Grandma's HouseDec 20, 2016View
3639ArticleNLoganYeah that is a Monkian augmenting my brother's forces with his Cyclops. I had Lion-O assisting my side of the battle with a Minotaur.NLogan's Christmas at Grandma's HouseDec 28, 2016View
3644ArticleNLoganSomehow M.A.S.K. was one of the only properties in the 80s that I wasn't fully immersed in. The only possible explanation is that some other show that I was more interested in was on in the same time slot. I was aware of it and may have even watched a few episodes, but only dimly remember it. As for the toy line I had 1.5 pieces. I remember looking at the toys in the toy aisle but never purchased or asked for any. I had a Hocus Pocus yellow little man with a small mask that I found on the playground once. Because he was tiny compared with my He-Man, Star Wars, and GI*JOE figures he was rarely played with. As an adult I bought an Indiana Jones Lost Temple of Akator playset for my sons. Wanting, hoping for the new film to be as good as the originals and getting some Indy figures for my boys where I as a child missed out on the Kenner figures and had none. I am not sure how or where I became aware that it was in fact the Kenner M.A.S.K. Boulder Hill playset re-purposed by Hasbro who would also use it again for their Star Wars property as a Mustafar final battle playset on the lava world of the prequels. The thing that resonates, I suppose, with me about this article is the feeling of wanting, hoping. That while in the present they are strip mining our childhood cartoons and toy lines for current marketable properties, that they stay faithful, close to the originals. There is always a spark of nostalgia when I see something I am familiar with come up again, a feeling of dread when I know they will probably mess it up by not coming close to the originals, and the let down and disappointment of being proven right as beloved characters are drastically changed. The Rebirth of M.A.S.K. and the Nostalgia StruggleDec 31, 2016View
3674ArticleNLoganI love me some metal lunchbox goodness. I have Universal Monsters, Return of the Jedi, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, Dragon's Lair, and Peanuts. My brother has Secret of Nimh and a few others. There is an Imperial Mummy figure in the pictures with the Dick Tracy stuff. My antique stores around here never get cool stuff like that.Antique Store Finds Part 1Jan 07, 2017View
