ArticleBenjanimeblack christmas looks like a real obscure flick! i'll have to check it out someday. i haven't brought myself to finish watching the first gremlins, due to the fact that i used to be a real sissy when i saw that scene with the gremlin that ran over the christmas tree. i'm into weird stuff, but back then that part in particular just rubbed me the wrong way Dec 14, 2013View
ArticleVaporman87I can't say I watch any particular feature length films to get into the Christmas spirit (though, I like watching Scrooged around this time of year). I settle for the short specials that air every year. But now I just pop them in the DVD player instead of looking for them in the TV Guide. Some favorites of mine are Santa Claus Is Coming To Town, Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer, Frosty The Snowman, Twas The Night Before Christmas (Rankin-Bass), the Chipmunks Christmas, A Charlie Brown Christmas, etc. All of your choices are very interesting though. I've never really thought to watch any of these during Christmas, though they take place during that time of year. Thanks again Miss M!Dorkette Christmas TraditionsDec 14, 2013View
ArticleVaporman87I think the length was just right. Just enough information to relay your fond memories without going into mundane details. It's easy to relate to, and that makes it a memorable read.ThatDude's Christmas MemoriesDec 14, 2013View
ArticleRuespielerI haven't had the time to write the article I boasted about in that PM. I'm glad I didn't, this would have been tough to beat. "T.U." #6A Yuletide Yakking Dec 16, 2013View
ArticleMissMThat's a good price Benjanime! They had the disc for sale in a tiny paper ornament for a 1.50 at Big Lots, but it looked really cheap. I hope you were able to pick it up! Vaproman, I just love this special. It truly has a great beginning, middle, and end. The flow is just splendid. And I agree, it is every bit as good if not better than the other specials that get played all the time every year. I hope you are doing well!He-Man and She-Ra Celebrate Christmas too!Dec 17, 2013View
ArticleMissMHey Vaporman! Yeah, it has been hard to really sit and watch a full movie this year, because things have been so hectic. But I know I will watch some of them. I think Batman Returns got into the rotation because I ended up purchasing it on DVD during the Christmas season, so I have connected it with the season, because I usually will watch it anytime of the year. I so love Frosty the Snowman. I used to cry when I was younger at his fate. I also love the Chipmunks Christmas and A Charlie Brown Christmas. I am very curious to see what the newly revamped Charlie Brown will be like in the next couple of years. Benjanime- Black Christmas is really good! The remade it s a few years ago and it was ok, but the original is just really good. It's like a slasher horror film, but it relies on more suspense than anything else. And yeah, there were a few scenes in the Gremlins movie that always rubbed me the wrong way or creeped me out as a kid. It's funny, because some of those things will still stick with me to this very day.Dorkette Christmas TraditionsDec 17, 2013View
ArticleVaporman87What is it about Santa (the live action ones) that so many children fear? Both of my sons DO NOT want anything to do with him, though they sure do love the presents he brings! I don't remember a time when I ever feared Santa, but I'm sure there was one. It's almost like a rite of passage for children to overcome the fear of hopping up on his lap to list your wants that year. What I like about this most, is that I had completely forgotten about the old 900 numbers you could use to call Santa. I personally never used them, but I remember now all the commercials that aired each year. Funny stuff. Thanks for this pikachulover! The Many Forms of SantaDec 17, 2013View

ArticlepikachuloverI think for me the fear stemmed from me thinking Santa was involved with those shady telephone number business people. I have a cousin, and when she was a kid she was afraid of all Santa things even drawings in books and wooden Christmas ornaments. The Many Forms of SantaDec 18, 2013View
ArticleVaporman87Wow! Where to begin? So much of what you have gone into here I can relate to. For starters, I can't agree with you enough regarding commercials during the Parade. Good grief, does there really need to be THAT many breaks in the action? I suppose if you had recorded it previously (as you mentioned), you could simply fast forward through the commercials... but it shouldn't have to be that way. Putting up the tree as a kid was not something we really did much as a family. Now that I have my own little family, we DO make it an occasion (especially the choosing of the tree and the star that will adorn the top). An what Christmas would be complete without the right television specials and films? When you're a child, it doesn't really matter what you're told or how you're taught... you are GOING to remain solely focused on presents. How can you not? So a kid can hardly be liable for not desiring to attend a church service in the midst of such excitement. And I say that as a Christian myself. Thankfully, the actual time for opening presents (and playing with them) and attending service rarely conflicted for me. Finally, I share your affinity for snow. During the beginning of this month, we were in Florida. It was so strange to see all the Christmas lights and hubbub in such a warm climate. I felt like something was missing. Then, in the Magic Kingdom, there are places and times when "fake" snow (consisting of clumped up bubbles) fall from the sky. I felt sad for those there that have never actually seen the real deal. That fake snow made me long for home and the real thing. Great first article SF! Thanks so much for sharing!A White ChristmasDec 18, 2013View
