ArticleHoju KoolanderYour Christmas tale definitely makes me wish we had an extended family we could visit, but my wife and I are both "stranded in the desert" far away from home. I loved the excitement of family reunions growing up and seeing all the distant relatives I never knew existed. @NLogan That is a pretty great lesson your Dad taught you guys. Your epic story makes me realize I should have involved my Dad when my Star Wars toys got stolen by a neighbor kid and his brother. My Mom just didn't have that intimidation factor. Dec 16, 2014View

ArticleBarryBgbThis was great. I used to record stuff all the time too. I had so many tapes (close to 100) and it was an obsession. I had all of them too until this past year when I was finally able to let a few boxes go. What can I say? More space was needed. It was with a heavy heart, but I had to. Those were good times. E.T. is as magical now as it was then. Still gives goosebumps. I was 3/4 around the time, but I remember seeing it on the big screen. I had the lunchbox and a plastic mug that came with Reeses Pieces. Those were the days.My Christmas 1982Dec 16, 2014View
ArticleVaporman87Very cool to learn of some of these films/shows. I agree with the choice of the Rankin-Bass "Twas the Night Before Christmas" special. That one I have fond memories of watching as a kid. The little mouse that rats out Santa as a myth always got on my nerves. I always wished one of the humans would catch him in a trap. LOL I'm interested in watching The Snowman. It sounds just splendid, so I'll check out the link you provided for that one. I'm also going to check out the Raggedy Ann and Andy special. I'm thinking I MAY have seen that one before, but it's been so long ago that I remember little to nothing about it. Some specials that I think deserve more attention: Emmet Otter's Jug Band Christmas The Christmas Toy The Life And Adventures of Santa ClausWhat To Watch on ChristmasDec 16, 2014View
ArticleSockofFleagullsI got my first mini boombox a little later in the decade, but I remember trying to record songs off the radio and when high speed dubbing was THE feature to have on your boombox or stereo. Thanks for the memories! My Christmas 1982Dec 16, 2014View

ArticleVaporman87Your experiences with your extended family, especially your cousins, it touching. My own experiences with my cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents... they weren't like yours. I had very little in common with my cousins on either side. On my Dad's side, either they were never around and I barely knew them, which made me uncomfortable around them, or I knew them and... just didn't like them much. :) On my Mom's side, almost all of my cousins fit into one of three categories: Jocks/Army Guys, Delinquents, and Girls. I fit in with exactly none of these three categories, and therefore did not fit in at all. I made no attempt to try either. No, my enjoyment of Christmas came with just immediate family, and friends. And, it's still that way today (though with a marriage and 3 kids - and one more on the way - our family has grown and so has our group of friends). Great story Miss M. 1670ArticleVaporman87While on the subject, there is a great image collection of cassette tapes located here. I tried contacting the owner to see if he'd be willing to lend out his image collection to us, so we could have it displayed here, but never received a reply. My Christmas 1982Dec 16, 2014View
ArticleBarryBgbWhat a blast. Yeah, TRU was a big part of my childhood. The smell of plastic, rubber and other goodies that instantly hit you when you walked in. I spent a lot of time trolling those aisles looking at things I wanted and hoped to get. The pics in this article are amazing and really hit home. Sadly, the place was re-decorated and lost a lot of it's charm. It eventually closed and became Babies R Us. :(Timewarp: Toys R Us 1987Dec 17, 2014View
