3871 | Article | Vaporman87 | It's fun to see how far the evolution of Nerd acceptance has come from the '80s to now. But it certainly does have it's roots in '80s cinema and the effects of that on our culture. | May 02, 2017
3877 | Article | Lazlo | I think it was an important moment, if you were like me growing up (and as an adult). I was the bookworm who spent a lot of time at the library, with an interest in nerdy stuff like history. I think these '80s nerd flicks, as campy and comical as they are on the surface, actually had a deeper message. It was about appreciating being nerdy and being into knowledge, and not being ashamed of it . . . and having fun with it too. Real Genius is still one of my fave flicks. | The 1980s: When Nerds Became Cool | May 04, 2017
3880 | Article | echidna64 | I remember even in the early 90's people would say that only nerds played video games, joke's on them now! | The 1980s: When Nerds Became Cool | May 06, 2017
3881 | Article | Lazlo | echidna64- Now everybody is at least part nerd, because everybody (or just about) is into computers. Some because they enjoy using computers. And some because computers are everywhere and have no choice! LOL | The 1980s: When Nerds Became Cool | May 06, 2017
3834 | Article | Vaporman87 | I can think of no other musical concert that was so popular and watched by as many people. It was all anyone talked about, at least as it pertained to music or musicians. | Remembering Live Aid (1985) | Apr 23, 2017
3845 | Article | Lazlo | Vaporman87- I remember I spent a large part of that day listening to the concert over the radio, until the television networks started coverage during the evening. To me, it was an important event for our generation. A very memorable '80s event. | Remembering Live Aid (1985) | Apr 23, 2017
3867 | Article | Hoju Koolander | While I was not quite old enough to experience these events in real time, their influence was felt in so many parodies on my favorite sitcoms like The Simpsons with "Sending Our Love Down The Well" and an episode of Married...With Children featuring "washed up" musicians singing "We Are The Old" to name a few. | Remembering Live Aid (1985) | Apr 24, 2017
3869 | Article | jkatz | Huh, I always thought (assumed) that Toto's "Africa" was written specifically for this event. It'd be interesting if this sort of widespread collaboration were to happen with today's top artists | Remembering Live Aid (1985) | Apr 26, 2017
3835 | Article | Vaporman87 | Ahh. So I'm guessing Marvel's dislike for the character spawned a name change to Miracle Man? There are so many great characters from the early days of comics that haven't seen the light of day in decades. My wife once purchased me a book that listed some of the worst comic villains ever created, and many of them were from comics I'd never heard of from the 50's. | The Secret Origin of Miracleman, Pt.1! | Apr 23, 2017
3858 | Article | Hoju Koolander | Thanks for giving MarvelMan/MiracleMan some love. I have have the 1st printings of issues 1-6 in my collection and they are fantastic. So engaging and truly twisted take on what the Captain Marvel concept could be. I'm looking forward to Part 2 because that's where the the story really gets convoluted as far as rights ownership, with Todd Mcfarlane himself getting into the mix. | The Secret Origin of Miracleman, Pt.1! | Apr 24, 2017 |
