| 3975 | Article | NLogan | I watched Jurassic Park multiple times in the theater in 1993. Terminator II was awesome in the theater in 1991. After waiting 16 years since Return of the Jedi in 1983 the excitement was in the air in May of 1999. There was a countdown on the news counting off the days until the movie release for The Phantom Menace. It was the first time in my life I remember seeing people lining up in advance to get movie tickets. I remember everyone cheering as the Lucasfilm logo appeared on screen. I tried hard to like it but I was severely disappointed. Ray Park as Darth Maul and Ewan McGregor as Obi Wan Kenobi were the only saving graces. I remember thinking wow they even screwed up Yoda who was a puppet. I just watched it for the first time last year and it's actually hilarious. The humor is pretty subversive and clever for adults if you read between the lines. I don't think you can possibly put Good Burger or Wild Wild West on the Top Summer Movies of the entire 90s decade. The other 3 can definitely be considered. It wasn't the best Star Wars film or even the best film of the Prequels, but it is certainly my favorite of the Star Wars Saga and I'm tired of seeing nerds still trashing it along with the other two Prequels on sites like this. I mean the Prequels came out in 1999-2005. That almost 20 years ago now. To kids like me who grew up in in the 2000's, The Prequels was our Star Wars and meant as much to us as the Originals did to 70's/80's kids.
