ArticleVaporman87@NLogan - Yeah, I spent a few years at the He-Man.org website contributing mostly in the Fan Art Forum. Then one day the site Admin, Val Staples, asked me if I wanted to put the silly He-Man comic strip I and Devin "Goatman" Duchscherer had been posting into the newest iteration of the comic (which was, at the time, The Rise of The Snakemen series). Naturally I went totally bonkers and was like "YES YES YES YES YES!" We did four strips, with three of them getting published before Mattel told Val that the strip had to go because they didn't like how their characters were being treated in the strips (as buffoonish, egotistical, lazy, confrontational, etc.). It was fun while it lasted.KIDS, Incorporated: Dreams Come TrueSep 23, 2014View

ArticleNLoganThat doesn't sound all that different from filmation's treatment of motu. I still frequent the site incognito under a different name. I am eyeballing those books in the point store. I haven't read them yet. I have heard that they shed a few details on mattel's re-use of existing molds as in my article. I stumbled upon that wjilebuying some motu for my son on ebay and came scross what I thought was a weird variant that turned out to be big Jim. Then the hunt was on for others. And now back to your regularly scheduled hoju article. KIDS, Incorporated: Dreams Come TrueSep 23, 2014View
ArticleHoju KoolanderYeah, I think I'm going to order both those books from the points store as well. Fascinating story I'm sure. There's actually a documentary called Toy Masters this guy has been trying to put out for years featuring interviews with the major players in the MOTU story. The trailer (which apparently got taken down) has one of the creators referring to the other's claims as "Pure Barbarian Fiction". You can check out the site here: http://www.toymastersmovie.com/KIDS, Incorporated: Dreams Come TrueSep 23, 2014View
ArticleNLoganI wanna hear more claims to fame stories like Hoju's. If you met a famous person tell us about it in the forums. http://www.retro-daze.org/site/thread/id/908KIDS, Incorporated: Dreams Come TrueSep 24, 2014View
ArticlevkimoWill Dr. Timewarp be a reoccurring alter ego of Hoju Koolander? Very fun article. And bonus points on the actual vintage shots inside a Toys R Us! It was always an idea of mine as a youngster to buy a Toys R Us and just lock it up for 15 years then reopen it as a museum. How cool would that be? I remember my Toys R us having all metal cages in the gaming section. It was maximum security there. I'm talking if you wanted a game the associate helping you had one key and the manager had the other. Both keys had to be inserted at precisely the right time and turned in sync. Maybe I over exaggerated that part... As for the Super Toy run, well that was a running fantasy all the way until I was almost a teen, which was replaced by fantasies of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, aherm. There was a really interesting AMA on Reddit from a guy who won it way back when, worth a read: http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/zkc78/i_won_the_nickelodeon_super_toy_run_in_1995_when/Timewarp: Toys R Us 1987Sep 24, 2014View
ArticleVaporman87Man. Just look at that section of Masters of the Universe stuff. If only I could ACTUALLY go back in time and just buy every bit of it. So much coolness. So much money. :) This was a fun adventure Hoj... I mean, Dr. Timewarp. Thank you for taking us on it. Now if I can just figure out where that Man-E-Faces costume is these days, and have the person who owns it sell it to me.Timewarp: Toys R Us 1987Sep 24, 2014View
Articlevkimo@Vapor I was thinking the same thing. Of all the MOTU (And any toy line really) merchandising, it's the promo stuff that's the most valuable. Store displays, event promotional items, etc. Timewarp: Toys R Us 1987Sep 24, 2014View
ArticleHoju Koolander@vkimo: Yeah, that security cage for the games is a vivid memory for me as well. It was just so mysterious. It was actual dreams I've had of returning to Toys R Us in the 80's that inspired this article. And yes, the good Doctor has a few more adventures up his sleeve. @Vaporman87 Those costumes would be an amazing, if not stinky find. I used to manage a KB Toy Store and the highlight of my life was when Spider-Man came for an in-store (Barbie was OK too). It was in 2001, so I'm not sure if it qualifies for the site, but I took a lot of pictures with him. I even convinced him to pose in the storage room with the mask off as if he was Peter Parker doing a quick change. Yeah, I'm a little weird.Timewarp: Toys R Us 1987Sep 24, 2014View
