2288ArticleHoju KoolanderThese guys were so much more than basketball players, they were pop icons, that's what allowed me to relate to this list. I made comic with a friend in high school called "The Vengeance of Hakeem", where Hakeem's Dad was secretly murdering all the competition to elevate his son's status. I had never even seen the guy play, but adapting him to my twisted comic stylings at my buddy's suggestion made him immortal in my eyes.  May 27, 2015View
2310ArticleHoju Koolander@Vaporman87 Good to be back! Oh poor Prototype, aka "Imitation Iron Man", at least he wasn't as mixed up as "Mantra"...oh my. I totally had the Marvel Super Heroes Deathlok action figure with the lifting metal brain cover, even though I never picked up an issue of his book. I always got Union and Supreme mixed up for some reason. @comic_book_fan Sleepwalker definitely needed to be on this list. I feel like whenever I see piles of old comics at a thrift store there is bound to be 2 or 3 Sleepwalker #1's in there. Five Forgotten Comic Heroes of the 90'sJun 19, 2015View
2312ArticleHoju Koolander@jkatz I feel like the whole line of Valiant books belongs on this list, since they never really had a breakout star in the mainstream. Unless you count Turok getting a game on the N64. Their artwork was pretty drab (aside from Quesada on Ninjak and later Bart Sears on X-O), but I liked the stories themselves.Five Forgotten Comic Heroes of the 90'sJun 20, 2015View
2322ArticleHoju KoolanderI remember seeing the trailer for Little Nemo and My Neighbor Totoro a lot back in the day, but never watched either one. I was less about whimsy and more about sci-fi action. I have since seen some Winsor McCay inspired art though and I love the detail of his work. My wife, who wasn't so media savvy as a child counts Little Nemo: Dream Master as one of her favorite NES games next to Super Mario Bros. 3. I actually found her a copy of the game at a used book store a few months back and she was pretty excited. She still knew all the old secrets of the gameplay and I have to agree that it's a well made game for the era.Little NemoJun 24, 2015View
2347ArticleHoju KoolanderGreat subject and memories. I always dreamed of a treehouse as well. We even had a gigantic tree in our backyard I thought would have been perfect, but the trunk was so tall, the nearest branches were like 25 feet off the ground in the "danger zone". I had to settle for "building" a fort in the bushes at the base of a large tree in our front yard, but it wasn't the same. Castles of YesteryearJul 04, 2015View
2348ArticleHoju KoolanderQuite an adventure you had there in the video store. Having also seen the vhs tape in video stores my whole childhood and having grown up with the Toxic Crusaders cartoon and action figures, out of curiosity I flipped on The Toxic Avenger on Netflix few weeks back. I didn't make it past that scene of the kid on the bike. That's some messed up stuff right there.Retro-graphic Evidence: Horror in the 80sJul 04, 2015View
2371ArticleHoju KoolanderGreat story. Contests and Sweepstakes were awesome as a kid, especially to toy store runs, but I also just love treasured shirts of childhood. I had a shirt that said Pope Tour on it, listing all the destination cities for Pope John Paul II. I'm not Catholic, he was just a pop culture icon to me. I finally broke down and bought one on eBay a few years back. Doesn't even fit, but I love it.Retro-graphic Evidence: Xardion Lives!Jul 09, 2015View
2379ArticleHoju KoolanderSuncoast Video was the best source for weird/rare videos in the 90's, loved that store! Never got into anime outside of The Guyver, but Ranma 1/2 always got a lot of press, so I was aware of it. Anime memoriesJul 11, 2015View
2380ArticleHoju KoolanderYou had good taste for a dreamer of toys. I actually owned the Laser Tag, Hit Stix and an old chemistry set, but as incomplete hand me downs.Yesterdays: Things I DIDN'T Have As A KidJul 11, 2015View
2403ArticleHoju KoolanderLovin' it, Mick. I had stacks of Wizard magazine going all the way back to issue 7 with X-O Manowar on the cover. It was the only news that mattered to me from the letters page to the Mort of the Month, I loved every page. I totally had the X-Men and Spider-Man: Arcade's Revenge game for the SNES and it ended my love of the system. I have several issues of Deathmate in my garage right now, after having been rejected by a used bookstore I tried to sell them to. Take THAT speculator boom! Oh and the Robin III cover was sort of a lenticular deal you made move with a tab on the front, I still have my issue #1. Pretty lame. The hologram cover for Robin II was simpler and cooler.1993 Comic Book Ads from Wizard MagazineJul 16, 2015View
