1785 | Article | Hoju Koolander | Wow, Anthony Edwards is "King of the Sidekicks" isn't he? Even in Revenge of the Nerds I always felt his Gilbert was playing second fiddle to Lewis. Great list! Sometimes sidekicks get a break, like Ben from Short Circuit becoming the main character in Short Circuit 2 (which is actually my favorite of the series). The only omission for me is Annie Herman from Troop Beverly Hills. She starts out as the sidekick to the villain, Velda Plendor, then switches sides to the kinder, Phyllis Nefler. Her overly timid performance is hilarious. | Jan 12, 2015
1790 | Article | Hoju Koolander | Sounds like you had a pretty awesome older brother to hook you up with fast food and talk radio. My dad and I tuned into "El Rushbo" and "Art Bell" through many travels in the car while snacking on junk food (I WASN'T skinny UNTIL high school). I think the best part of your story is that your family really made the day about you. All your favorite activities were crammed into one massive celebration. Very cool. | My 6th Birthday Party | Jan 14, 2015
1796 | Article | Hoju Koolander | @pikachulover My wife seconds your comment about the big glasses. I guess since that was kind of a unisex style, I never associated it with just women's fashion. But Annie Potts as Jeanine in Ghostbusters is one great example of it. @vaporman87 Hey, at least your Dad will have some bartering power in the post-apocalyptic world. What will YOU have...Moss Man mint in package?! j/k | Women's Fashion of the 80s | Jan 15, 2015
1801 | Article | Hoju Koolander | @Vaporman87: My favorite lyric of the Gummi Bears theme is "Magic and mystery are part of their history, along with the secret of Gummi Berry Juice..." Very medieval/sword and sorcery with all those horns blaring. @thecrow174: Excellent point. Duck Tales and Rescue Rangers had some of the best NES games ever, not limiting the discussion to just licensed games. So it's odd that Gummi Bears never go that treatment. | The Disney Afternoon Revisited | Jan 16, 2015
1802 | Article | Hoju Koolander | Pillow Head sounds like a good premise for a horror movie. I had 2 reoccurring dreams during childhood: 1) I would get left behind somewhere by my family, but in this world I was a 4 year old Spider-Man. So I would stick to the bottom of a car (in costume) that would drive around the city until I found my family. 2) I was stuck in a maze with multiple doors, either Batman, The Joker or a family friend would pop out from a door, but when I went to open it they were gone and as I walked through I was back the start of the maze again. | My Top 5 Strangest Reoccurring Dreams | Jan 16, 2015
1812 | Article | Hoju Koolander | @pikachulover I guess I should have collaborated with you for more personal photographic evidence of the event. At least Gadget got her own ride once Toontown opened, what a tribute! I didn't remember the stamp on the map deal, sounds cool. I definitely was watching The Disney Afternoon on KCAL 9, I think I linked to that special. Was it the one with the Olsen Twins? @Vaporman87 I have found evidence on YouTube that Disney World had a Disney Afternoon stage show at Mickey's Starland, but no mention of the Avenue and ride conversions. @thecrow174 Another great observation. I guess futuristic surfboards aren't very fitting for the timeframe either, but they probably knew they had to give kids someone to identify with, despite looking like he came from a totally different series. | The Disney Afternoon Revisited | Jan 18, 2015
1815 | Article | Hoju Koolander | Yeah, I guess I did go kind of obscure by choosing the stars of mostly syndicated shows, but the truth is I watched a lot of lame Saturday afternoon/Sunday morning TV growing up. How about I make it up to you with this bonus 80's Burger King commercial featuring a teeny-tiny Sarah Michelle Gellar https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bU6gzE7k9cY. 1816 | Video | Hoju Koolander | Steve Levitt played Thor's alter-ego/conduit, Donald Blake in The Return of the Incredible Hulk TV movie. So when I caught this flick for the first time on Netflix a while back, it was weird to see him basically taking on the Bruce Banner role by transforming from puny pipsqueak to macho muscle man. Unfortunately the movie really drags when he's not on screen, despite the wacky beach comedy elements. | Hunk | Jan 21, 2015
1817 | Article | Hoju Koolander | While I find JP3 to be a far superior film to this one, I really enjoyed your article. I love the fold out from the soundtrack CD, what a great decoration for your party. I remember the same confusion with the toys when the original film came out. The Dino-Damage tear away flesh on the dinosaurs was awesome, but Malcolm and Ellie were the only ones that resembled the actors from the movie. 1820 | Article | Hoju Koolander | Oh the joys of the video arcade birthday and a whole roll of tokens! I bet you did your best to stay in that kid's good graces until the next birthday rolled around. Congrats on the Mortal Kombat victory, however short lived. That's a feat I never managed to accomplish in any fighting game.
