1555ArticleHoju KoolanderI thought it worth mentioning that the photos of the kid in the Spider-Man shirt, the "Birthday Boy" and "Cookie Kids" all feature a young Hoju Koolander. That's the real deal, my friends! @SegaFanatic Mac Tonight was pretty freakish, but his sunglasses made him acceptably cool.  Dec 01, 2014View
1557ArticleHoju Koolander@pikachulover The Oliver and Company Happy Meal toys nearly made it into this adventure. For such a mediocre movie they really pushed it hard with not 1, but 2 appearances in 1988. I had both the plastic figures and the plush Christmas tree ornaments. 1561ArticleHoju Koolander@Vaporman87 You are right, even though their animation was pretty limited and recycled on He-Man, they did create the backstories we know and love for the characters. Connecting Man-At-Arms, Teela and The Sorceress? Making Queen Marlena an Earthling Astronaut? That was some pretty cool stuff. 1562ArticleHoju KoolanderReally fun ride you took us on. I loved the KISS pinball metaphor (KISS Army unite!) and the fact that reading Christmas themed comics was part of getting you in the spirit of the season puts a smile on my face. You know the Ultimate Warrior (R.I.P.) fought Santa Claus in comic book form too...it was pretty messed up.Christmas: Alone & Kickin' ItDec 02, 2014View
1571ArticleHoju KoolanderYeah, pull out those photos! I've seen that last picture for years and never noticed the Mr. T figure hiding in there. Who knows what you'll find.Holi-Daze: Toys UnwrappedDec 05, 2014View
1572ArticleHoju KoolanderLoving your pen name. I once spent a lonely holiday season evening at a movie theater attending a special retro screening of Christmas Vacation. It was a 10pm show and I literally had the theater to myself. The staff kept coming in to see if there was anyone in the theater because they wanted to go home, but like Clark, I stood my ground in the name of Christmas...or I didn't have anything better to do. 1587ArticleHoju Koolander@NLogan I almost referenced the Big Trouble In Little China Raiden/Rayden, he was always featured in the Saturday afternoon commercials for local TV broadcasts of the movie. I never knew about the different spellings or the breakdown in the original Japanese. Cool! @Vaporman87 Typing letters to magazines/newspapers, the original comments section! I bet your letter was infamous around the EGM offices. Scorpion was always my favorite guy as well. I had an obsession with grappling hooks, so his weapon of choice gave him instant status with me. Speaking of which, correction in the second to last paragraph: Johnny Cage fought Scorpion, not Liu Kang. Those freakin' colorful ninjas...Mortal Kombat MemoriesDec 10, 2014View
1607ArticleHoju KoolanderThat's an awesome introduction to the world of comic books, nice story. Image comics were pretty disposable to me, but the toys were the best. That first Spawn figure changed the game entirely. I had a few WildC.A.T.S. figures myself, in fact I made an "action figure movie" starring Maul and Hellspont with our family video camera. But Grifter definitely had the best design.Christmas of 1994 Dec 11, 2014View
1608ArticleHoju KoolanderGreat, feel good story. Spinja stress, has to be the best kind.I remember well the tales of elusive toys only available in another state where friends had just visited or used to live. For that reason I always made my parents stop at a toy store when we were out of town, just in case. It is awesome that your parents tried at least.1990 - The Year Santa DiedDec 11, 2014View
