1497 | Article | Hoju Koolander | @Vaporman 87: Glad to hear that your board was functional ;) of course now we all want to know how to catch a glimpse of this band of skate hooligans that terrorizes your town annually. My brain imagines them skating at each other like a joust and meeting in the middle exchanging punches to the face. @pikachulover: Yeah I grew up in Irvine, which is right next to Newport Beach. I think 75% of skaters are posers (the fashion is definitely a big draw), but the hardcore 25% that hone their skills are really impressive. Skater girls are always cool, whether they skate ot not. FYI: There's a lot of great skateboarding documentaries on Netflix right now, my favorite is "Bones Brigade", which covers the era I wrote about here. | Nov 08, 2014
1502 | Article | Hoju Koolander | @comic_book_fan: That seems like a fair deal your Mom struck with you on that one. I had a similar situation regarding Married...With Children, my Mom was always saying, "Are you watching that Bundy again? If you start acting like that, it's going off." | When Wrestling Rocked | Nov 12, 2014
1504 | Article | Hoju Koolander | Yeah, going to the Laser Tag arenas is pretty fun. The people who just hide out as "snipers" are lame, but most everybody is on the move and you never know who is around the next corner. My friends and I used to strap-on the laser tag gear to battle each other at a local elementary school around 9am at night rather than pay the $5-$10 a person. | Laser-Daze: Photon vs Lazer Tag | Nov 14, 2014
1515 | Article | Hoju Koolander | Thanks for the kind words about Rakeman, I am in the process of remastering it and then I will post it to Home Movies section per your suggestion. I finally got a chance to watch The Lost Few and Dark Wrath is awesome! Is that you? Excellent sword work and I love the cardboard armor, I used to make similar costume pieces for myself. The Day Series sounds pretty hilarious. UHF is one of my favorite movies and Weird Al was my musical icon until I was 12, so I take any association as a compliment. I am very distantly related to Al, he is my sister in law's brother in law's cousin. My brother met him at a family gathering a few years back. And that, as Al would say, is my "Lame Claim To Fame". | Making Movies on VHS | Nov 19, 2014
1521 | Article | Hoju Koolander | Your point about The Thing is great. He really is a grounded character and despite being seemingly grumpy, he really brings a lot of levity to dire circumstances with this wit. I ended up being anti-popular characters when I really started collecting comics in the 90s. I always went for the B-Teamers like Darkhawk and The Ray or Resurrection Man (maybe they're more C-List, actually). I mean I had some Spider-Man stuff (Mostly 2099 and Ben Reilly in "Sensational"), but usually I wanted "What If...?" stories or Elseworlds tales. The status quo was always boring to me, I wanted the stuff they took chances on. | My Top 5 Favorite Comic Book Characters | Nov 19, 2014
1532 | Article | Hoju Koolander | @Vaporman87 I said it would be controversial, didn't I? The Filmation omission was definitely on my mind. I figured since I was already trashing H-B, focusing in Filmation's faults would be redundant. Bravestarr and Ghostbusters were B-Level favorites of mine whose animation quality did improve a lot over He-Man, but the associated toys were always better than their cartoons. @pikachulover The Disney cartoons deserve an article all their own. I almost added The Wuzzles to the list, but they were cut for length. I actually thought the G1 My Little Pony TV movies were OK animation wise, but they had pretty scary villains terrorizing the ponies. @Fulton4V Glad get some support on Dinosaucers. One of the creators, Michael Uslan was a producer on Batman '89 and a lifelong comic book fan. He talks about developing the show in his book, "The Boy Who Loved Batman". | 80's Cartoons: An Animated Discussion | Nov 28, 2014
1533 | Article | Hoju Koolander | We did a 4th of July concert of American folk songs once in 4th grade, but nothing on this scale, sounds fun. Good catch on the possible Simpsons inspiration. My son's babysitter has Swedish ancestry so they do all the traditional processions in those white robes and head wreaths at Christmas. Our son got to participate last year and they had him wearing a Sorcer's Apprentice hat with a star wand, did anybody in your group have that stuff? | The Worst Christmas School Production in the World | Nov 28, 2014
1548 | Article | Hoju Koolander | The most interesting thing about this list is that Vader isn't the only one with acting credits. Kane made the See No Evil movies, Nash was Super Shredder in TMNT 2 among more recent projects, The Undertaker was a bad guy in Suburban Commando and of course Andre was unforgettable in The Princess Bride. If the list was expanded to six to include The Giant/Big Show, we could be celebrating his performance as Captain Insano in The Waterboy. Giant wrestlers make for memorable movie moments. | Top 5 Best Big Men in Wrestling History | Dec 01, 2014
1555 | Article | Hoju Koolander | I thought it worth mentioning that the photos of the kid in the Spider-Man shirt, the "Birthday Boy" and "Cookie Kids" all feature a young Hoju Koolander. That's the real deal, my friends! @SegaFanatic Mac Tonight was pretty freakish, but his sunglasses made him acceptably cool. | Timewarp: McDonald's 1988 | Dec 01, 2014
1557 | Article | Hoju Koolander | @pikachulover The Oliver and Company Happy Meal toys nearly made it into this adventure. For such a mediocre movie they really pushed it hard with not 1, but 2 appearances in 1988. I had both the plastic figures and the plush Christmas tree ornaments. | Timewarp: McDonald's 1988 | Dec 01, 2014 |
