Favorite Unpopular Retro Toys

By: MatuX2
Hey Guys its MatuX , This Is my very first Article On Retro Daze , even though on Retro Junk I already Have two Articles but Oh Well here it goes

Toys, Action figures... We had a lot of them in our childhoods and probably the ones we most played with were the popular ones. ( Prince Adam , Optimus Prime , Batman , Outback etc. ) But of course we have the Un Popular toys that nobody seemed to buy but we picked up just for the sake of having a new figure to play with and to add to our collection

But anyways here i am again with a NEW article (Drum Roll ), Of my personal top 5 favourite toys that back then weren't so popular.

5. Mortal Kombat GI Joe: Johnny Cage.

Now the reason why this is in my Top 5 is because ...... It is the only GI Joe Figure i own.(GASP) Reason why?, Because of course i used to have a lot of GI Joe Figures back then but of all the damage , and moving houses , this was the only one that survived and also it is not really that popular , but i loved it .

4. Batman Movie Toys : Bob The Goon

I know a lot of people actually hate this figure because the design is horrible and the features are crappy ( I know , i know ) But for an unknown reason i loved it i played with it every day, but i ended up losing all of the accessories and the kicking leg is now loose , anyways the batman movie figures were actually never that popular.

3.Ghostbusters Movie: Stay Puft Toy

I FREAKING LOVE THIS TOY. To this day i still have it ( Its actually on my desk right now ) and all the damage done is only an almost broken hand ( Come on that's not much ) I remember each day of making this toy fight against my wrestling figures , and he was never that popular , as much as all the other toys were popular this one wasn't that popular , in fact my friends didn't even knew this toy existed.

2.Transformers G1 Terrorcons: Hun Grrr

Now when i got this toy i actually thought it was a fake , bootleg Transformers toy , then i actually went to the store and i saw all the other Terrorcons figures ( Which were AWESOME ) but nobody seemed to buy them :( , Oh well anyways it was a pretty awesome and big Transformers toy even though now i lost all the stickers and accessories that came with it.

1.MOTU: Clawful Action figure

Now of all my Un Popular figures this one has to be the most popular and my favourite one , because well the MOTU Figures has always been my favourite Toys ever but this one has a special feeling that i cant really describe i just loved it and protected it so much that to this day i still have , and i have it in perfect condition

So guys this was my second article i hope you like it better than the older one, and if its still bad i promise i will get better . MatuX

There were so many MOTU figures that were simply retooled versions of other characters that I think it eventually lead to the quick death of the line at that time.

Think about it, all these other giant 80's properties are still selling big in big box stores, except He-Man. Now, you can still get brand new He-Man and The MOTU figures from MattyCollector.com, but the mainstream appeal of He-Man is just gone it seems.

Yeah the bob the goon figure is pretty crappy but i like it :), actually now that i think of it clawful is not really that Un popular , i should have put Tusken raider from the original Star Wars action figure series

The Bob figure is just a crazy looking, crappy, crappy figure. Nice article though. You should check out my curse of the variant article for some more duds.

I must say, I had NONE of these "unpopular" retro toys in my day... with one exception - Clawful. But even regarding Clawful, I can confirm that he was not exactly the toy everyone just had to have in the MOTU line.

Terrorcons were nowhere to be found in my closet. I had mostly G1 mainstays, and that was about it.

I didn't even realize a Johnny Cage GI Joe had been produced. So, that is news to me!

It does seem that the most unpopular releases almost always come toward the end of the toy line (or at least the end of that particular run of them). However, I would probably include every figure from the New Adventures of He-man. LOL

Great read MatuX! Thanks for this.
