Holiday Television: Nickelodeon Christmas Blocks

It's that time of year again as the holiday season has returned. The smells and sounds are in full swing, as well as the specials and movies. Last time I did this I covered Kids WB holiday blocks, this time I am covering the channel ran by kids for kids, Nickelodeon.

SnickToons Christmas Gift Pack (1994-1997)

Starting in 1994 and running until 1997, the Snicktoons Christmas gift pack was a two hour block of holiday themed shows that normally aired on SNICK. Mostly animated shows, the bumpers set itself a part as they were stop motion. The one thing that was common with Nickelodeon at the time through out the nineties.

Nickmas (2002-2003)

Only lasting two seasons, Nickmas left an impression most younger Millennials and older Gen Z still recall from time to time. Nickmas was still a segment showing holiday themed episodes. However the bumpers played off of Christmas specials like How the Grinch Stole Christmas,  Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, A Charlie Brown Christmas and other classic ads and shows. But with a Nickelodeon twist. While short lived it did however pack a punch with the animation being the same kind of animation of what they were parodying, some clever jokes, and still keeping with the season.

Ha Ha Holidays (2004-2008)

Though a bit more tucked away in Nickelodeon history. Ha Ha Holidays went all out with live action bumpers. It was more treated as a holiday party with the cast of U-Pick Live. It was still the same kind of block, showing holiday specials of Nickelodeon shows for the whole month of December. It was still a fun little block and was still on brand for the channel.

While these blocks may seem as nothing more as a seasonal overlay. They make the season just a bit more special. They help get kids and possibly their parents into the spirit of the holidays and puts a smile on their faces. Much like how researching has put a warm smile on mine. So from me to you all, have a Merry Christmas, a happy Holiday, and a Happy New Year.
