A Closer Look at: The 25 Days of Christmas

With the holidays here it's a joyus time of year normally. However with the year of 2020 things have been one event after another. Which in turn has sucked the fun out of the year. Though one holiday that can be fun to celebrate by yourself is and always will be Christmas. What better way to celebrate is with Christmas movies to help count down the days? Well, The 25 Days of Christmas on The Family Channel, no wait Fox Family, I mean ABC Family, wait it's Freeform. This is A Closer Look At The 25 Days of Christmas.

Starting on December 1st 1996 on then The Family Channel, 25 Days of Christmas is a block that airs from December first to Christmas. It started as a mix of classic Christmas specials and originals until 2006 where the block added movies such as Harry Potter and many Walt Disney films. For a short time in 2017 and 2018 the block was on the other Disney owned networks such as ABC and all the Disney Channels.

With the reception and ratings that the block it was decided in November 21st 2007 to add a countdown to the block called Countdown to 25 Days of Christmas, then in 2018 it was renamed as Kickoff  To Christmas. While it originally started around Mid November the block has shifted dates to around twelve days before Christmas. Though with the renaming came a new, more solid time placement. In 2018 the Kickoff to Christmas starts on November 1st to the 30th.

While content has shifted over the years in terms of where it has come from the formula stays the same with a mix of originals, classics, and more family oriented content. Ranging from the Rankin Bass specials to Disney and Harry Potter. Each year adds more to the rotation of programs shown between new original content and content from other sources, mostly Disney.

As times get harder we look to the past or holidays for comfort. The thoughts of being together with friends and family, the smells, sights and sounds all bring that warm comfort to us all. So this holiday season, treasure that time and those memories. From ThatDudeintheHoodie to you, Happy Holidays.
