Sailor Moon Videos

The VCR was broken when Sailor Moon aired on KCOP, so I couldn't tape it. I didn't have cable so I could not catch the reruns when they were on USA.

I used to buy these videos with my babysitting money. Except the Sailor Jupiter video was a birthday present for my 14th birthday. These videos were in heavy rotation. They are the ones in the glittery Boxes. So I was pretty much only watching those 6 episodes on the tape. I would watch them anytime I had a minimum day at school in junior high. They would only serve lunch after school on those days. I would rush home to eat lunch at home and watch Sailor Moon videos. According to the Sailor Moon wiki there were 6 of these released, so I had half of the collection. The boxes are reminiscent of the boxes for the Little Mermaid Saturday morning cartoon series.

Well they were both distributed by the same company.

The A Moon Star Is Born video had the episodes "A Moon Star Is Born" and "Talk Radio" on it. In "Talk Radio" Serena listens to a radio show called "The Love Line". Perhaps Sailor Moon was a fan of Adam Carolla and Dr. Drew? She enjoyed wagering on callers, and listening to the story of Tim the Russian Rapper.

I wanted a Sailor Moon video because they were on sale, but the only one in stock at the Toys R Us was a copy of "Evil Eyes". So I got it anyway. That video had "Cruise Blues" and "Shutter Bugged" on it.

Here is the video from the Toys R Us ad. I wanted the video in the ad. It says it costs $9.99. I used this picture of the video for a collage I made in the 8th grade.

Jupiter and Venus Arrive has of course the episodes about them finding Jupiter and Venus. "Jupiter Comes Thundering in" and "Sailor V Makes the Scene".

Clips from the Sailor Venus episode were used in the promos for Sailor Moon on KCOP. They used clips of the fake Sailor Moon (Zoisyte) swinging on a rope. I wish that old promo would surface online somewhere.

The boxes looked a little beat up because the videos were well loved. One time my dad spilled milk on my videos, and of course I was pissed. The worse part? He didn't even apologize.

The redrawn box art is pretty funny looking. Sailor Moon looks so horrible! And they are drawn so inaccurately. I could have drawn better box art than this.

I love the pink and glitter video boxes. It just screams 90s.

@Hoju You are right. Fun Fact: The Sailor Moon ice cream bar design was recycled a few years later for the Sabrina the Teenage witch ice cream.

I remeber catchin a few episodes of Sailor Moon on KCOP channel 13 before school, but besides the transformation sequences it didn't quite hook me. I do recall that my buddy had a couple of the original Japanese movies or episodes without dubbing on VHS. Those ones seemed so much more serious than the dumbed down American version. Does anybody else see the Sabrina, The Teenage Witch parallels with teenage girl dealing with her powers and a talking cat?

Oh yeah the live action Sailor Moon girl. Before the internet I thought I made that up.
